: Safety Supervisor (Confined Space Project - Repainting of Internal Structure)

Location: Melaka, Malaysia
Contract Duration: 6 Months (Extension subject to performance)

Position Overview

The Safety Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing all safety-related activities for a confined space repainting project. The role ensures full compliance with regulatory requirements, client safety standards, and company procedures to maintain a safe working environment. The Safety Supervisor will supervise confined space entry work, conduct daily inspections, guide workers on safe practices, and enforce compliance throughout the project duration.

Key Responsibilities

1. Safety Compliance & Oversight

Monitor and enforce compliance with OSHA, DOSH (Malaysia), and relevant regulatory requirements for confined space work.

Ensure adherence to company and client safety rules and Safe Work Procedures (SWP).

Oversee implementation of Confined Space Entry Permit systems, work-at-height procedures, hot work controls, and other related permits.

2. Site Monitoring & Inspections

Conduct daily site safety inspections on all confined space activities and repainting operations.

Identify hazards and unsafe practices; recommend corrective actions immediately.

Ensure proper ventilation, lighting, and rescue equipment are available and functional before entry.

3. Confined Space Management

Work closely with gas testers, standby men, and the project team to ensure safe execution.

4. Briefings

Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety briefings specific to confined space and repainting works.

Brief workers on hazards, safe procedures, emergency evacuation plans, and PPE requirements.

5. Incident Prevention & Investigation

Lead preliminary investigations of near misses, incidents, or unsafe conditions.

Prepare incident reports and recommend corrective/preventive measures.

Track corrective action close-out to prevent recurrence.

6. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate records including:

Daily safety reports

Permit-to-work documentation

Attendance for toolbox talks

Safety checklists and inspection logs

Submit weekly/monthly safety summary reports to the HSE Manager/Client.

7. Coordination & Communication

Coordinate with project supervisors, contractors, and client representatives to ensure safety expectations are met.

Participate in safety meetings and audits at site.

Qualifications & Requirements

Diploma/Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.

Valid certificates in:

AESP Competency

Site Safety Supervisor (SSS) by DOSH (preferred)

First Aid & CPR (advantage)

Minimum 1-2 years experience supervising confined space work, preferably in repainting, construction, or industrial maintenance.

Strong understanding of local HSE regulations, PTW systems, and emergency response procedures.

Good communication and able to interact with workers of all levels.

Physically fit to enter confined spaces when necessary (as per regulation).

Location: Melaka

Working Hours: Project-based schedule (may include weekends or extended hours depending on progress).

Extension: Contract may be extended based on performance and project needs.
