Maintain a special educational needs register.
Put provision in place to ensure that progress of students with special educational needs improves relative to those without special educational needs.
Support all students with special educational needs.
Support all staff in understanding the needs of students with special educational needs and this includes regular training as well.
Support departmental development of special educational needs provision.
Monitor progress towards targets for pupils with special educational needs.
Liaise with staff, parents, external agencies and other schools to co-ordinate their contribution, provide maximum support and ensure continuity of provision.
Promote inclusion best practices and contribute to the aims and ethos of the school through membership of the senior leadership team and where possible, attendance at school events.
Evaluate the effectiveness of provision.
Teaching and Learning
Support the identification of and disseminate the most effective teaching approaches for individual students with special educational needs.
Collect and interpret specialist assessment data to inform practice.
Undertake day to day co-ordination of special educational needs students' provisions through close liaison with staff, parents and external agencies.
Work with principals, key stage coordinators, teachers and pastoral staff to ensure all students learning is of equal importance and that there are high and realistic expectations of students.
Co-ordinate all Annual Reviews and reviews of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) where appropriate and attend/chair meetings when necessary.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Hold a good Honours Degree in Psychology, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology or related fields.
Hold a UK-recognised teaching qualification (PGCE or similar).
A minimum of 2 years of working experience with children with Special Needs.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
The ability to teach an additional subject would be an advantage.
