JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: What you will do: As a Senior Associate, the person in this role will provide legal support to the Technology and Operation teams and departments in various areas such as broadcast technology, infrastructure and networks, IT, broadband, digital and customer group. This support will primarily consist of reviewing, drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts. The person must demonstrate a strong understanding and keen interest in technology, broadcast, media and intellectual property issues and also possess an ability to distil technical and legal issues of mid-level complexity into concise and accurate drafting. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Review, draft and negotiate various types of agreements, including agreements relating to: the acquisition, licensing of software and hardware for equipment, systems and infrastructure relating to satellite broadcast technology and over-the-top applications and platforms, use of satellite transponders and other content delivery modes, licensing of IT software, cloud type of services (SaaS, IaaS and PaaS), maintenance agreements relating to technology and IT systems, subscription terms and conditions of use of Astro Services, tenancy agreements, general building facilities and infrastructure maintenance agreements, sales and product campaign terms, event management agreements, sales agent agreements, service agreements relating to sales distribution, non-disclosure agreements and sponsorship agreements and other miscellaneous services agreements relating to the various businesses of the Astro Malaysia Group. Provide legal advice to the various divisions in the Company on a range of matters including company law, contract law, media law, defamation law, information technology law and intellectual property law. Coordinate with external legal counsels where required. Provide legal advice and ensure compliance with the provisions of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Companies Act 1965/2016, Copyright Act and any other legislation relevant to the business operations of the Company. Provide legal advice and/or training, and ensure compliance with the various internal policies of the Company, including contract process, management of investments and registration of intellectual property. Support internal process compliance and work with various internal stakeholders to ensure compliance. Independently handle low to medium complexity deals under the portfolio of practice area with minimum supervision. Assist immediate supervisor in complex deals under supervision of immediate supervisor/head of practice group. To update and research on legal issues from time to time. REQUIREMENTS: Who you are: Degree in Law Professionally Qualified (CLP or equivalent) and/or called to the Malaysian Bar Excellent understanding of contract law 4 to 7 years of legal practice experience in a highly regarded legal firm or in-house equivalent (preferably in the field of Technology, Multimedia and Telecommunications (TMT) related work). Good analytical skills Ability to work under pressure and enjoys working in a dynamic environment Ability to negotiate contracts and find solutions in deadlocks Good communication skills Ability to work independently and in a team environment Enjoys high pressure and a dynamic environment Excellent communication (both verbal and written) skills Digitally savvy Excellent drafting, legal and research skills Familiar with and competent user of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Powerpoint Other competencies: Time management and organisation: To ensure files under portfolio are organised in an orderly manner and support to the business units is provided in a timely manner. Planning: Understanding and prioritising \'business as usual\' matters with \'critical matters\' without compromising the business unit\'s expectations. Adapt quickly, coordinate, prioritise and plan effectively in a fast paced environment with competing priorities. Problem solving: Creatively solve issues and problems for positive outcome all round. Communication: With strong communications skills, build effective relationships with colleagues within both the Legal department and the wider business, developing trust and rapport at all levels. Strategic thinking: To assist immediate supervisor/head of practice group in complex deals.
