Job Description



Sunway Business School is a candidate for AACSB accreditation and is the largest of the seven Schools at Sunway University with nearly half of all student enrolments. The School consists of six discipline-oriented academic departments: Accounting, Business Analytics, Economics and Finance, Management, Marketing, and the Centre for Commercial Law and Justice. Each department is led by a Head of Department who provides academic leadership in the relevant discipline area(s) and manages the academic staff within that Department. The School works closely with the University\'s main collaborative partner, Lancaster University (in particular the highly-ranked triple-accredited Lancaster University Management School) and most of the School\xe2\x80\x99s degrees are validated by Lancaster University with graduates receiving degrees from both universities. Current degree offerings consist of Accounting and Finance, Business Management, Business Studies, Entrepreneurship, Financial Analysis, Financial Economics, Global Supply Chain Management, International Business, and Marketing. The School also offers Master of Marketing, Master of Human Resource Management, the premier MBA programme in Malaysia, and a PhD in Business.
Senior Lecturers are expected to provide leadership in and contribute to the teaching, research and general administration, support and management of the Department/Centre, School and University, including undertaking leadership roles. Academic staff members are also expected engage actively in activities to develop or enhance their teaching, research and/or professional expertise relevant to their profession or discipline area.
The duties/responsibilities listed below describe the general nature of the role. The proportion of time spent on teaching, research and service (administration and management) will vary from individual to individual, depending on the needs of the Department and individual strengths.
At all times, staff are expected to behave in a professional and courteous manner, undertaking assigned duties to the best of their abilities, and adhering to the University\xe2\x80\x99s codes of conduct, policies and practices.
Research:

  • Conduct research in relevant disciplines;
  • Publish high quality journal articles, conference papers and/or other peer reviewed outputs as appropriate to the subject discipline;
  • Secure funding to support their research;
  • Supervise student research projects, including Doctoral and/or Masters students;
  • Lead on and participate in collaborative research projects with colleagues both within and external to the University;
  • Engage proactively with the wider research community in their fields of study, promoting their own research and the academic reputation of the University;

Teaching:
  • Design, plan and deliver lectures, tutorials and other teaching and learning activities appropriate to their discipline;
  • Assess student work and progress, providing constructive and timely feedback;
  • Regularly review the effectiveness of their teaching, and proactively seek ways to improve the quality and effectiveness of their teaching;
  • Initiate and lead on the design, development, delivery, review and enhancement of programmes of study within their Department/School;
  • Invigilate examinations and assessments, moderate assessments papers, including second marking, and attend and contribute to Subject and Programme Boards;

Service:
  • Participate constructively in Department, School and/or University committees;
  • Undertake leadership roles within the department and school, including the chairing of departmental- and/or school-level committees, and/or acting as a Programme Leader or equivalent role;
  • Help to arrange and participate in internal and external events, such as open days, outreach activities, and visits to partner institutions and internship placements;
  • Support and assist senior colleagues in ensuring the smooth running of the department and programmes;
  • Provide academic counselling to students, referring them to other support services as required;
  • Mentor junior staff;

Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Business Analytics/Business Information Systems.
  • 3 to 5 years of working experience.
  • Scholarship appropriate to maintain AACSB Scholarly Academic (SA) status.
  • At least two (2) SCOPUS indexed journal publication in the last 24 months.
  • Knowledge in SQL, Python, Tableu is preferred.
  • Capability of teaching Database, Business Analytics for Management, Business Intelligence Applications is preferred.
