Closing Date: 14 April 2024KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To provide legal advice and opinion on operational legal matters, particularly relating to the provisions of the laws/guidelines such as the Electricity Ordinance (Cap. 50) and Regulations as well as other Statutes.
  • To provide advice on legal and operational aspects of the assigned business unit(s) including but not limited to electricity business matters, corporate financing, company laws, land and wayleave matters, contract management issues etc.
  • To negotiate, draft, review, witness, and attend to the stamping and/or legalization of any contract or legal documentation required by the SEB Group.
  • To manage and ensure corporate compliance vis-a-vis the statutory and legal provisions applicable to the conduct and operation of the assigned business unit(s).
  • To handle all disputes involving the assigned business unit(s) in the best interests of the SEB Group as a whole.
  • To brief SEB staff on the legislation or law currently affecting SEB.
  • To provide, secure and/or assist on any special projects, assignments, or other relevant services to support the abovementioned functions as required from time to time.
  • To establish and maintain close contacts or good rapport with relevant government, statutory and professional bodies, consumers, and relevant parties to ensure compliance and achievement of goals and objectives.
QUALIFICATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor of Laws.
  • Advocate of the High Court of Sarawak.
  • At least 6-8 years of working experience. Experience in legal practice would be an added advantage.
SKILLS:
  • Considerable knowledge in the preparation, drafting, and perusing of contracts.
  • Considerable knowledge of fundamental subjects in law, especially commercial related issues.
  • Working knowledge of the legal practice.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written & verbal). High proficiency in oral and written English.
  • Analytical thinking.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations relative to work.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate oral and written data, analyze facts, and draw logical conclusions.
  • Ability to formulate legal opinions and convey advice clearly and concisely to non-legal personnel.
  • Ability to work effectively in accordance with internal/external governance and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.
  • Proficient in preparing documents in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint applications.
  • Interpersonal relations and negotiation skills.
