The Senior Pipeline Engineer will be a member of the East Central Engineering team. The role provides pipeline discipline expertise in a multi-disciplinary team that provides engineering support to various projects and asset support across multiple Lines of Business in Shell. This position supports project development and execution, brownfield modifications, asset integrity assurance, and D&R activities, ensuring safe and effective design, operation, and delivery.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape potential projects at an early stage, collaborating with the wider organization. The purpose is to drive timely delivery of high-quality, duly assured pipeline discipline engineering deliverables with a focus on fit-for-purpose solutions based on competitive scoping including rejuvenation/reuse of existing facilities, risk-based requirements, cost-value trade-offs, and off-the-shelf solutions. In asset support capacity, this role involves assessment, review, and assurance of pipeline and process plant equipment to ensure asset integrity and safe operations. The Senior Pipeline Engineer will serve as the Pipelines Technical Authority (TA2 or TA3) for the region.

What\xe2\x80\x99s the role?

The Senior Pipeline engineer will act as an independent contributor as well as coaching of junior engineers. Success in the role requires a broad understanding of Shell\xe2\x80\x99s business and HSSE programs to ensure global consistency in approach. Leadership and influencing skills, internal and external stakeholder management skills, and the ability to get results both with and without direct authority will be expected. Some key accountabilities are as below

  • Work closely with the project team for early development opportunities/pre-FEED to drive competitiveness by providing focused engineering support, based on fit-for-purpose engineering requirements.
  • Manage pipeline discipline engineering activities and deliverables towards top quartile and best-in-class, applying principles of requirement management and systems engineering.
  • Engineering review of technical and non-technical deliverables; ensure that all deliverables associated with the discipline meet safety, technical, and quality requirements and that the risks are managed in a cost-effective way.
  • Drive Top Quartile delivery of pipeline engineering scope from pre-FEED through detailed design, construction, installation, commissioning, and start-up of the project. This may include design & procurement execution & supervision, as built verification and P2A management.
  • Solve challenging problems by understanding key business needs, bringing to bear knowledge of internal/external capability, and partnering with other disciplines. Where applicable, provide feedbacks for improvement on standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement and work proactively with the other engineering disciplines and relevant stakeholders both internally & externally (including the engineering contractor and the supplier base).
  • Verification of the design works carried out by engineering contractors to ensure proposed solutions meet integrity, reliability, operability, and maintainability requirements to ensure compliance with project specifications, Design Practices, and contractual requirements.
  • Support OUs and Assets in the region for review and assurance activities, ensuring compliance with Shell standards.
  • Handling of interfaces with internal and external parties/organizations for technical and non-technical issues; demonstrates HSSE and quality mindset, technical proficiency, commercial awareness, leadership attributes, and the ability to communicate well at all levels internally and externally, with staff, contractors, and key stakeholders
  • Working closely with GDH, PTEs/RDLs in growing and mentoring junior pipeline engineers.
  • Working closely with Asset managers and/or ASMs & LOB EMs and support/contributing to asset integrity management of pipeline systems and process plant equipment
What do we need from you?

  • Engineering degree with at least 15 years of experience in pipeline design and installation.
  • Have an excellent technical knowledge base, including onshore and offshore system understanding.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of regulatory, procedures and materials for onshore/offshore pipeline systems including international standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage the execution of scope through Contractors.
  • Experience in delivering pipeline engineering scope from pre-FEED through detailed design, construction, installation, commissioning, and start-up of the project including as-built verification and P2A management.
  • Excellent listening, facilitation, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to use global standard work processes across a variety of projects in an international setting and for multiple customers
  • Effective communication with management, technical and commercial specialists, and operations staff in all disciplines and across regions.
  • Willingness and ability to manage potentially conflicting stakeholder interests, able to deliver multiple simultaneous workstreams, and manage challenging workloads with conflicting priorities.
  • Promoting by example, a corporate culture of openness, enterprise-first behaviors, and a learner mindset.
  • The candidate shall have a sound technical understanding of oil and gas projects.
