Get to Know the Team
At Grab, the UX Engineering team shapes and scales our design ecosystem, from building and maintaining the design system to creating internal tools and platforms that help designers and engineers move faster together. We turn ideas into production-ready solutions with a focus on accessibility, performance, automation, and bringing design closer to production.
Get to Know the Role
This is a hands-on engineering role where you will use your technical skills to solve complex product design problems and lead the use of new design tooling, including AI-powered solutions, and mentor designers through vibe coding, workshops, and close collaboration to bring design closer to production.
You will report to Senior Design Manager, UX Engineering based in Taiwan and work onsite in Grab Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia office (First Avenue, Petaling Jaya).
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Develop the design ecosystem, including internal tools, platform services, and shared repositories.
• Build the design system (e.g. tokens, components) to ensure accessibility, performance, and consistency.
• Develop AI-powered tools that enhance design workflows, from brainstorming to production, and contribute to product strategy in this space.
• Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and coaching to designers and teams, helping them upskill through hands-on collaboration, vibe coding and so on.
• Improve workflows and processes, automating to increase team efficiency and reduce friction.
• Collaborate across design and engineering teams to ensure tools and systems integrate into product pipelines.

Qualifications
What Essential Skills You Will Need

• 5+ years of experience in either front-end or back-end development (JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js, Python or similar).
• Hands-on experience with AI-powered tooling (integrating AI models, building AI-assisted workflows, or applying ML/LLMs to design and engineering).
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Preferable Qualifications:

• Experience mentoring and upskilling designers through coaching and vibe coding.
• Comfortable with production engineering practices: Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and reviewing contributions.
• Experience managing AWS infrastructure, especially EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service).
• Experience with training, fine-tuning and deploying machine learning models (e.g. embeddings, computer vision, custom LLM, on-device ML)
• Experience with AI tooling basic knowledge: context engineering, Model Context Protocol (MCP) and so on.
• Track record in developing design systems or internal tools at scale (e.g. tokens, components, repositories).
