The Ship Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of ship machinery, equipment, and systems to ensure vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with maritime regulations.
Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repair
Carry out routine preventive and corrective maintenance of ship engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and other machinery.
Assist in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system issues.
Perform repairs on deck machinery (winches, cranes, steering gear, etc.) and engine room equipment.

Inspections & Monitoring
Conduct regular inspections of ship systems and record performance data (oil level, pressure, temperature, fuel consumption).
Monitor alarms, gauges, and automated systems to detect irregularities.
Support periodic surveys, audits, and classification inspections.
3.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all work complies with IMO, MARPOL, SOLAS, and flag state safety regulations.
Follow shipboard safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and confined space entry.
Maintain proper use of PPE and safe working practices at all times.
4.
Documentation & Reporting
Keep accurate maintenance logs, service reports, and defect lists.
Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the Chief Engineer.
Assist in preparing spare parts requisitions and inventory records.
5.
Team Support
Work closely with engineers, electricians, and deck crew to ensure vessel readiness.
Provide technical support during docking, undocking, and voyage operations.
Assist in training junior crew members on maintenance procedures.
Requirements
Diploma/Certificate in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
Relevant experience in ship machinery maintenance (engine room or deck systems).
Knowledge of marine safety standards and classification society requirements.
Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical skills.
Ability to work in shifts, including at sea for extended periods.
