Job Description


I. JOB PURPOSEThe English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher must be qualified and experienced in teaching EAL to learners from diverse backgrounds. The primary role and responsibility of this position is to cater to and support the English language acquisition needs of all Middle and Senior School students enrolled in the Intensive English Support Class (IESC) programme.The role will involve the planning, creation and delivery of targeted and differentiated English language lessons and programmes that promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment, with a key focus on student participation and engagement.The Teacher must be a dynamic EAL educator and committed classroom practitioner who is willing to work collaboratively with the IESC teaching team and Head of Language Acquisition to meet the needs of students enrolled in the programme.II. KEY RESULT AREAS/ RESPONSIBILITIESDesign, plan and deliver high quality intensive English lessons in a mixed age and mixed ability setting, including learners with little to no English.Work under the supervision of the Head of Language Acquisition to design, implement and evaluate strategies to support students in the IESC programme.Work closely and collaboratively as part of the IESC Team to support the needs of all students enrolled in the programme.Use a broad range of instructional strategies and resources to meet the needs of IESC students.Track, record and manage IESC learners\' progress.Plan, assess and report in line with the school\'s expectations and standards.Maintain a safe and secure educational environment by modelling and enforcing appropriate standards of behaviour.Undertake tasks and assume responsibilities associated with the ongoing development and innovation of the IESC programme.Meet regularly with the Head of Language Acquisition to report on progress of IESC students.Provide an exemplary student-centred, ICT-inclusive learning experience for all IESC students.Develop productive and respectful relationships with parents and colleagues to ensure effective learning for students at the school.Actively embrace opportunities for professional learning.Contribute to the provision of a rich and diverse co-curricular experience for students in the School.Other duties as directed by the Principal or Head of School.III. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLSProven skills in designing, implementing and evaluating differentiated and targetted learning experiences for students from non-English speaking backgrounds.Proven skills in using ICT to improve student engagement and learning.Knowledge of and experience in applying the principles of Visible Learning would be highly regarded.Expertise and/or experience in leading/coaching sports or other co-curricular activities would be highly regarded.Spoken and written English is used for all school communications and as such a high standard of English communication skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening is required to be successful in this position.C. QUALIFICATIONSCandidates must possess at least a Diploma in Education and significant experience, or a Bachelor\'s Degree in Education or relevant discipline.Candidates must possess a recognised qualification in TESOL, TEFOL, ESL, EAL or equivalent.D. EXPERIENCEExperience working with learners in TESOL, TEFOL, ESL, EAL contexts.Experience working in a recognised and established private / international school.Recent experience working in a Secondary / High School setting.IV.
