Job Description

Maintains nursing standards and good patient rapport. Works closely with the nursing team to oversee theatre sessions, coordinating with surgeons and anesthetists for smooth, safe operations. Implements safety measures (swab/instrument counts, blood and drug handling, radiation protection, fire safety, infection control, cleaning). Participates in planning, developing, and evaluating nursing services. Holds regular staff meetings and assists in surgical procedures when needed. Attends Head of Service meetings with management. Provides updates on nursing statistics, performance, improvements, and achievements. Executes staff development programs to maintain competency and support professional growth. Monitors Operating Theatre (OT) utilization. Reviews policies on theatre allocation, emergency surgery provision, and session length. Conducts staff performance evaluations (probationary and annual). Establishes credentialing and privileges for nurses. Encourages continuous education. Monitors OT environment (e.g., annual air quality checks). Conducts regular audits of OT practices. Ensures instruments are properly maintained. Trains and supervises staff in cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and storage. Ensures equipment (e.g., autoclaves) are inspected, licensed, and meet quality assurance standards. Oversees triage quality in the Accident & Emergency Department (A&E). Ensures readiness for mass-casualty incidents, disasters, and surge events. Supports staff in complex/high-risk cases (trauma, resuscitation). Leads A&E response during critical incidents with clear communication and coordination. Oversees staff training for emergency procedures and conducts readiness drills.
