Job Description

As an

Assistant Design Manager

, you will lead and oversee the design process from concept to completion, ensuring design excellence, technical accuracy, and timely delivery. You will collaborate closely with clients, consultants, and internal project teams to translate creative concepts into functional, buildable solutions. This role requires strong leadership, project management, and communication skills to manage multiple design projects simultaneously within the commercial and corporate interior sectors.

Key Responsibilities



1. Design Leadership & Management

Lead, guide, and mentor the design team in producing creative, innovative, and practical design solutions.

Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring design intent, quality, and standards are met.

Review and approve design concepts, space planning, and material selections.

Translate client requirements and brand identity into creative, functional design solutions.

Oversee design presentations and ensure alignment with client expectations.

2. Project Coordination

Coordinate with Project Managers, QS, and BD teams to align design vision with project cost, scope, and schedule.

Conduct regular design progress reviews and ensure technical compliance with local building and safety codes.

Participate in client, consultant, and vendor meetings to resolve design-related issues.

Manage submissions, drawings, and approvals in coordination with consultants and authorities.

3. Client Engagement

Attend client meetings from briefing to handover to ensure satisfaction and long-term relationships.

Present design proposals and provide professional recommendations on materials and finishes.

Address client feedback and ensure revisions are implemented effectively.

4. Quality & Compliance

Ensure all design documentation is accurate, consistent, and aligned with company standards.

Maintain awareness of design trends, new materials, and technology within the industry.

Uphold sustainability and ergonomics principles in design approaches when applicable.

5. Team & Resource Management

Allocate resources and assign design team members according to project requirements.

Support recruitment and training of junior designers to build internal capability.

Collaborate with management on workflow improvement and design process standardization.

Any adhoc task assigned by Design Director or Management needs to be carried out.

Qualifications & Requirements



Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field.

Minimum 6-10 years of relevant experience in interior design, preferably within commercial, workplace, or retail projects.

Proven track record in managing end-to-end design development and project delivery.

Strong understanding of design detailing, technical drawings, and fit-out construction processes.

Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, Revit, and MS Office; knowledge of 3D rendering software is an advantage.

Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills.

Strong organizational and time management skills; able to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

Knowledge of local building codes, authority submission procedures, and project coordination in Malaysia.

A good eye for aesthetics with a balance of creativity and practicality.

Mandarin or other language proficiency is an added advantage due to client liaison.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: RM8,000.00 - RM8,200.00 per month
