We are currently seeking a high calibre professional individual to join our Technology team in the role of Assistant Manager Data Management.

Principle Responsibilities

Assistant Manager, Data Management role is based within the Malaysia Data & Architecture Office (DAO) team, as part of a broader HSBC wide initiative to improve the information governance, data management & data analytics maturity. The role purpose is to support Data Governance in country, drive the delivery of the Group Data Strategy and Policy, and Data Literacy to generate business values from data.

This role works closely with DAO colleagues, Business Partners (Country Data Leads) as well as Business Subject Matter Experts (SME) in the analysis, planning and implementation of the data strategy. On a daily basis, this role supports DAO colleagues in the development of market data initiatives that enable the implementation of the data strategy. It is also requirement to work with local business data leads to implement continuous improvements that raise the Data Management maturity level through Protect, Connect and Unlock data initiatives. Accordingly, this role requires an ability to own and deliver projects and help build business relationships with the in-country data community.

Duties include:

  • Help to cascade group data strategy and vision at the country level across GBs/GFs.
  • Develop awareness of Data Risk and work with 2LOD stakeholders to manage and report impacts at market and ASP levels.
  • Support the delivery of the data governance programme to ensure data governance policies and practices are embedded consistently across GB/GFs.
  • Continually assess and identify risks in line with the HSBC risk management approach, ensuring they are mitigated and accounted for work within the data governance programme.
  • Ad hoc support to DAO colleagues and HSBC businesses on data matters which may include data management, data lineage, data analytics, data quality and data literacy.
  • Develop skills in tools such as Alteryx, Qlik and PowerBI.
  • Participate in the development, management and maintenance of data standards, policies and methodologies.
  • Provide a service to internal stakeholders to determine business needs in the areas of data maintenance, data governance, risk management and data good practice.
  • Assist DAO management to drive data literacy initiative to bring awareness across HSBC transforming to data-led organization.
  • Support DAO colleagues with the administration of governance forums.
Requirements
  • Between 2 - 5 or more years work experience preferably in data management, with good awareness of industry Data Quality practice, Tools and Processes.
  • Banking experience with good knowledge of Investment Banking and/or Retail Banking.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organised and well structured.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and client oriented.
  • Self-motivated, focused, detailed oriented and able to work efficiently to deadlines are essential.
  • Balance approach to risk management including techniques to mitigate risk.
  • Ability to work with a degree of autonomy while also being able to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • High degree of personal integrity and willing to take responsibility.
  • Relevant degree or post graduate qualification.
  • Knowledge in Cloud, AI & Machine Learning would be a plus.
