Assistant Ocean Freight Manager

Job Overview:

As an Assistant Ocean Freight Manager, you will oversee daily ocean freight operations, including shipment bookings, documentation, customer communication, and performance tracking. You will collaborate with carriers, agents, and internal teams to ensure compliance, on-time delivery, and high service standards. You will also lead and develop a team to drive process improvements and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and oversee ocean freight bookings and shipping documentation. Ensure shipping and transportation activities meet legal and regulatory requirements. Manage billing processes, including accurate invoicing and vendor payment verification. Track shipments and provide agents/customers with timely updates and proof of delivery. Respond to rate inquiries, prepare quotations, and handle customer requests efficiently. Resolve service failures promptly, investigate issues, and implement corrective actions. Coordinate with shipping lines and service providers to ensure smooth operations. Lead and guide the ocean freight team to improve process efficiency and service levels.

What We're Looking For:

Diploma/Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field. Minimum 3-5 years' experience in ocean freight operations, with 1-2 years in a supervisory or team lead capacity. Strong knowledge of ocean freight processes, shipping documentation, and carrier coordination. Experience in customer service, rate negotiation, and handling escalations. Proficient in MS Excel and familiar with freight management systems. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Detail-oriented, organized, and able to perform under tight deadlines.
