About the Role
The Assistant Restaurant Manager supports the Restaurant Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the hotel's Chinese restaurant. The role ensures exceptional guest experiences, high standards of Chinese dining service, smooth team coordination, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Restaurant Manager in day-to-day operations of the Chinese restaurant: ensuring smooth service during lunch, dinner, banquet if applicable.
Supervise and train front-of-house staff (servers, hosts, runners), ensure standards of service (Chinese cuisine service style, etiquette, presentation) are met.
Maintain high food & beverage service standards: timing, plating, cleanliness, consistency.
Oversee reservations, guest seating, guest flow. Attend to VIP guests or special requests.
Handle guest feedback, complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction, and escalate to the Restaurant Manager when necessary.
Work with kitchen & service teams to ensure coordination: menu knowledge, special orders, ensuring appropriate staffing for busy periods.
Monitor inventory of service supplies: china, cutlery, glassware, napery. Coordinate with purchasing/kitchen for replenishment.
Aid in cost control: managing wastage, portion control (especially important in Chinese banquet/service settings where quantities and presentation are key).
Ensure compliance with health, safety, hygiene regulations; ensure service staff follow SOPs.
Assist in shift scheduling, ensuring adequate staffing especially during peak times.
Assist with administrative tasks: preparing reports, sales tracking, budgeting, reconciliations.
Support in promotion of restaurant (e.g. coordinating with marketing or hotel promotions), special events (Chinese New Year, banquets, theme nights).
Step in for Restaurant Manager when they are absent.
Skills & Qualifications
Previous F&B or Chinese restaurant service experience; experience in management / supervisory role is preferred.
Knowledge of Chinese cuisine styles (dim sum, banquets, family style, etc.), including service etiquette.
Good leadership & people skills: training, motivating, supervising staff.
Strong communication & guest-service orientation.
Good organizational skills; able to multitask and work under pressure (busy service hours, large banquets).
Basic financial acumen: tracking sales, cost control, inventory.
Understanding of hygiene & food safety standards.
Ability to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends, holidays).
Sometimes proficiency in relevant languages (Mandarin, Cantonese) and/or ability to interact with culturally Chinese clientele is a plus.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: RM2,500.00 - RM6,000.00 per month
