We are seeking individuals to join HSBC\'S Wholesale department in the role of Assistant Vice President, Credit Analysis Unit.

What is the role:

The Role requires the Assistant Vice President to lead the Corporates/FIG Credit Analysis Team in Kuala Lumpur which supports APAC regions. In addition, the Assistant Vice President would also be required to liaise with the business and locally with the supporting Departments which would enable him/her to carry out the duties.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team for Credit Analysis Unit team (Corp & FIG) by providing high-quality functional support to analysts and stakeholders, with the objective of achieving service excellence.
  • This role entails the need to possess notable skills in handling stakeholders, decision making and people.
  • The role holder is expected to have subject matter expertise of end-to-end credit processes, corporate banking products, ability to articulate analytical & risk oriented views, sound knowledge of diversified sectors, working knowledge of diverse credit systems within the Group and an eye for detail to ensure quality of output acceptable to onshore approvers.
  • The capacity and the maturity to constantly guide and motivate team members to deliver high quality of credit submissions is a vital component of this role.
  • Besides, there will be a need to share domain expertise with the team members to nurture their skills and demonstrate domain expertise.
  • Undertake high quality industry, competitor and client level analysis for Wholesale Relationship Management (RM) Team.
  • Analysis of financial documentation and supplemental data to support lending decision-making and recommending credit requests to appropriately meet business needs.
  • Preparing credit analyses in support of new and existing business relationships.
  • Personally develop and maintain strong working relationships with Wholesale & CMB Relationship Managers / Associates along with executives in Risk to ensure that all risks to the business, financial and non-financial, are properly recognized and thoughtfully mitigated in proposals.
  • Ensure that all work is delivered within agreed timeframes, PLAs and meets the required high quality standard.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant policies, FIM guidelines and procedures issued by the Group.
  • Pro-actively suggest and design improvements in process workflow, where applicable.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and other parts of Wholesale as required.
  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards.
  • Need to implement the Group Compliance Policy, as applicable to their role.
  • Need to be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with their role, and to ensure that all actions during their employment with HSBC take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring.
  • Adhering strictly to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards, policies and practices; reporting weaknesses, compliance breaches and operational loss events.
Requirements

Knowledge and Experience:
  • Highly customer oriented and delivering top quality customer service.
  • Strong people management, people development and stakeholder management experience.
  • Strong domain knowledge & diversified sector experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; strong ability to portray a macro view and also an eye for detail.
  • Candidate needs to have knowledge of credit systems and banking products.
  • At least 6 years of relevant work experience in Credit Analysis, Research, Corporate Banking backed by demonstrated analytical expertise and team management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Chartered Accountants / Masters in Business, Finance, Economics or equivalent is essential and any professional qualification (i.e. CFA, Chartered Banker) is desirable. If none, tenured experiences in credit analysis and/or credit approvals will be considered.
  • Highly proficient at Excel and Word.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills in English, proficient in credit writing in English, hard-working, organized, diligent, and above all a good team player.
  • Cantonese and/or Mandarin language capabilities are highly preferred. The analyst should be able to speak and read financial statements in Cantonese/Mandarin language.
  • Knowledge of Investment Banking is mandatory, such as Securities, Treasury, Foreign Exchange and Derivatives.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Self-starter and able to work with limited supervision.
