About us The SEA Materials in Technology Development Department is responsible to ensure that all specifications of Dyson applied parts, including but not limited to Safety Critical Components and Sustainability Materials, are correctly met, and produced. We provide materials selection guidance (sourcing, material specification verification and manufacturing support) for all project teams. We ensure consistent use of materials for specific applications. We also drive initiatives for new materials, to provide solutions where material choice is a significant factor. We always work closely with Material Compliance team, product safety engineers and other inter-department such as Category, Research Design Development (RDD), Color Materials & Finishes Design (CMF), Tooling, Supplier Quality, Operations and Procurement to ensure the materials readiness are meeting all projects requirements. About the role To support the Materials specification development activities in various steps of product design cycles, the following are expected: Have solid understanding of material science and a high level of knowledge in plastics application development with resin manufacturers and RDD, meeting overall Dyson part application and development requirements/verification for Dyson products. Understand the plastics manufacturing process/injection moulding process, their processing requirements and how potential material-related quality issues associated to these processes, thus able to provide material related technical advice to Part design owners and moulders, to produce parts that meet cosmetic appearance requirements and part technical requirements, such as part strength and dimension. Lead the development of new materials solutions for future and existing products, to support company long-term goals and strategy. Conduct research and testing on new materials and processes. Lead the Part Requirements (PRS) review process with Material engineers to optimize the material selection rationale. Serve as a technical expert and consultant for internal and external stakeholders. Represent the Materials Team in internal and external meetings and discussions. Provide technical guidance and support to team members. Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians, including training documentations, best practices, process flows, etc. Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure that material deliverables and other material-related approval processes meet both technical and business requirements. Lead the material analysis and testing capability by conducting a material study project on a specific subject. Contribute to team and department level initiatives for betterment, including but not limited to material research study, testing and analyses, PRS process. Provide material insights and influence project schedules and budgets. May involve in developing and implementing company-wide initiatives contributes to the overall technical strategy of the organization. About you Possess at least a bachelors degree or masters degree in chemistry or polymer technology, chemical engineering, or material science. More than 5 years of working experience with Plastics Material handling and processing background and experience in Plastics compounding/injection moulding industries is preferred. Good knowledge of Material Engineering, especially on Engineering plastics material, its mechanical and chemistry properties, and its post-consumer recycled (PCR) business community and environment. In addition, a good command of materials compliance legislations requirements such as RoHS and REACH is required. Fluent in spoken and written English and with good communication skills. Excellent ability to understand and formally discuss contents on chemical/material regulatory matters. Highly motivated, internally driven individual with good problem solving & analytical skills, good planning and organizing capabilities and able to work within a team. Self-driven with strong attention to details and must possess character of high integrity. Able to work independently without supervision. Possess excellent communication skills in English and computer literate with good understanding in Microsoft Office.
