The Position Automation & Energy Manager

Job Summary

The Automation & Energy Manager supports all the plants in the PM APAC region. He/ she is responsible for driving plant competitiveness with automation upgrades to enhance efficiency, productivity, and accuracy, primarily in existing plants but also involved in expansion or greenfield projects. The role will provide project management and design guidance to various Industrial IT topics, to develop, implement and sustain automated processes and infrastructures. In addition, he/ she will take the leadership to consolidate and implement energy management and optimization strategies across all the plants in the PM APAC region.

Key skills required would be methodical analytical and problem solving skills, specialized in system integration and equipped with strong communication competency.

Based in Kuala Lumpur/ Ipoh, the Automation & Energy Manager will report directly to Project & Process Director PM APAC.

He/ she will be part of the PM APAC Centre of Excellence (CoE) Team, working closely with different functional support members and local teams to support various mineral processing plants within the PM APAC region.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Industrial IT Adequacy & Automation

Works closely with IT experts to implement regional strategies to sustain and improve Industrial IT adequacy of the plants, primarily in Industrial Automation (both hardwares and softwares), Data Management, Network and System Management.

Define, review and audit Compliance plans, such as Disaster Recovery Plan, Obsolescence Prevention Plan, Cybersecurity etc.

Define and review system infrastructures and system integrations.

Drive continuous improvement. Proactively benchmarking and identifying areas of improvement to optimize and improve automation and control systems to stay updated with evolving technologies.

Develop and implement best practices to enhance Industrial IT efficiency, reliability and accuracy. Ensure efficient Process Control tools are in place for Plant/ Equipment Automation.

Lead or participate in Industrial IT projects, provide project management and technical design expertise.

Provide specifications and requirements/ programming to PLC & HMI & SCADA System (Programmable Logic Controllers & Human-Machine Interface & Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition)

Troubleshooting and Support. To provide assistance to resolve technical issues.

Lead automation testing & commissioning of new equipment or new plants.

Interface with internal and external engineering groups/ vendors/ subject experts to ensure technical feasibility, design intent and cost effectiveness.

Review and provide technical assistance on relevant Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) requests.

Define and review automation performance management or standard. Establish and review the relevant Key Performance Index (KPI), facilitate data accuracy and analysis comparison.

When required, set up technical manuals, drawings, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides for newly established or retrofitted automated equipment/ processes.

Energy Management

Develop and implement energy management and optimization strategies to collectively achieve the Imerys\xe2\x80\x99 Climate Change Commitment. Imerys committed to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG (Greenhouse Gases) emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2021 base year.

Develop and animate roadmap to reduce energy consumption, improve energy efficiency and promote renewable energy integration.

Work closely with subject experts to conduct energy audit and assessment to identify opportunities for improvement.

Network with internal and external engineering groups/ vendors/ subject experts to stay updated with emerging technologies, industry trends and best practices.

Assess the feasibility and potential benefits of integrating alternative energy sources, for example evaluating the Solar PPA etc.

Work closely with APAC site teams and energy taskforce, establish energy & carbon emission yearly targets at BA/ Hub/ Plant level.

Energy performance monitoring. Define and review energy management tools to collect and analyze accurate energy data to generate performance reports.

Consolidate and report Energy Key Performance Indexes (KPIs) for the region/ BA. Ensure timely reporting with good data accuracy.

Others

Leadership and guidance to \xe2\x80\x9cmake things happen\xe2\x80\x9d.

Uphold Imerys EHS standards in all phases of work.

Coaching and training. Provide mentorship to site teams, establish and transfer knowledge and know-how.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience requirements:

Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

Proficiency in a second language commonly used in South East Asia is necessary.

Degree in Engineering, preferably major in Electrical/ Automation/ System Integration/ Computer Science.

Experience and knowledge of PLC, HMI and SCADA systems.

Industrial experience is essential. Mining/ minerals industry experience has an advantage.

7 years of experience with relevant or similar roles. Regional exposure or Owner experience would be appreciated.

Experienced in automation infrastructure design/ PLC programming or energy management would be a plus point.
