Responsibilities
Answer incoming multi-line phone calls with professionalism, courtesy, and empathy, establishing a calm and reassuring tone for distressed callers
Conduct thorough phone triage by gathering essential medical information using established protocols and medical terminology to assess the severity of emergencies
Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and GPS technology to accurately locate callers and dispatch appropriate emergency services swiftly
Coordinate with law enforcement agencies when necessary, providing clear information and facilitating seamless communication between responders and callers
Enter data accurately into dispatch systems, maintaining detailed records of incidents, caller information, and dispatched units
Manage complex multi-line phone systems efficiently to handle multiple calls simultaneously without delay or loss of information
Apply analysis skills to evaluate situations quickly, prioritize responses, and make informed decisions under pressure
Demonstrate excellent phone etiquette and communication skills to reassure callers and gather critical details effectively
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to security protocols at all times during call handling and data entry
Engage in ongoing training on medical terminology, first aid procedures, conflict management, negotiation techniques, transcription accuracy, and security measures to enhance performance
Skills
Proven EMT experience or background in emergency medical services enhances understanding of medical procedures and terminology
Strong knowledge of GIS mapping tools, GPS systems, and phone triage protocols for accurate location tracking and response coordination
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to remain calm, clear, and professional in high-pressure situations
Proficient typing speed for efficient data entry and transcription tasks during calls
Experience with dispatching procedures and multi-line phone systems to manage high call volumes seamlessly
Familiarity with law enforcement coordination processes when required for emergency response support
Excellent analysis skills to assess situations rapidly and determine appropriate actions or responses
Conflict management abilities to handle distressed callers effectively while maintaining composure
Attention to detail for accurate record keeping, incident documentation, and data entry compliance
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while demonstrating strong negotiation skills when needed
