is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining COBOL-based applications on mainframe platforms supporting card products (credit and debit cards). The role ensures secure, reliable, and efficient card transaction processing and lifecycle management in a mission-critical environment. The developer works closely with IT teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to deliver system enhancements and maintain high service availability.
Key Accountabilities & Outcomes
1. Development & Maintenance
Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL programs for card systems.
Ensure batch jobs and online transactions run reliably and efficiently.
2. System Integration
Integrate mainframe applications with internal systems, databases, and external interfaces.
3. Testing & Quality Assurance
Conduct unit, integration, and regression testing.
Ensure adherence to security, audit, and regulatory standards.
4. Production Support & Monitoring
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues promptly.
Work with IT operations on deployments, monitoring, and incident resolution.
5. Requirements Analysis & Collaboration
Collaborate with business analysts, stakeholders, and IT teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
6. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain up-to-date technical documentation.
Ensure compliance with internal IT policies and industry regulations.
7. Performance Optimization
Analyze and optimize COBOL code, batch jobs, and system processes for better performance.
8. Knowledge Sharing & Continuous Improvement
Participate in code reviews, team discussions, and learning initiatives.
Suggest enhancements to processes and system architecture.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
Diplomas or certifications in mainframe technologies may be considered with relevant experience.
Experience
3 to 10 years
of experience in IT, preferably in mainframe development or banking applications.
Certifications (Preferred)
IBM Certified Specialist - COBOL Programmer
IBM certifications related to z/OS, CICS, or DB2
Certifications in software development, systems integration, or banking IT
