An Asian Commis Chef is an entry-level culinary professional who assists in preparing and cooking a variety of Asian and Malay dishes under the supervision of senior chefs. This role is foundational in a professional kitchen and offers hands-on experience with traditional and modern Asian cooking techniques.
Key Task
1. Assist in cooking and plating dishes according to recipes and presentation standards.
2. Keep assigned kitchen stations clean, organized and stocked.
3. Operate and maintain tools like woks, steamers and fryers.
4. Monitor freshness, portion sizes and cooking temperatures.
5. Work closely with chefs and kitchen staff during service.
6. Help manage stock rotation and ingredient storage.
7. Follow strict food safety and sanitation protocols.
1-2 years in a kitchen environment
Working experience
1. Asian and Western cuisine background.
2. Experience in high-volume or casual dining environments.
3. Exposure to various cuisines, especially if the restaurant has a specialty
Skills required:
1. Culinary Basics: Knife handling, ingredient prep, and cooking techniques
2. Asian & Western Cuisine Knowledge.
3. Ability to multitask during busy service hours.
4. Strong communication and collaboration with kitchen staff
5. Quick learner in a fast-paced environment
6. Understanding of food safety and cleanliness standards
