Job Title: Commis (RM 3,000 - RM3,500)



Department: Kitchen



Reports To: Head Chef



Job Summary:



The

Commis

supports the kitchen and catering team in preparing, cooking, and presenting food for events, functions, and daily catering operations. This entry-level role involves assisting in food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring that all dishes meet company quality and hygiene standards. Working under the supervision of senior chefs, the Catering Commis plays a vital role in ensuring smooth kitchen operations and the successful delivery of high-quality catering services.

Key Responsibilities:



Food Preparation:



Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as chopping, peeling, marinating, and portioning ingredients under the direction of senior kitchen staff. Prepare simple dishes, garnishes, and components for buffets, plated meals, and canapes. Follow recipes and instructions from the Chef de Partie or Head Chef to maintain consistency, quality, and presentation standards.

Cooking Assistance:



Support in the cooking and plating of dishes during events, banquets, and catering services. Ensure all food items are cooked to proper standards and served at the correct temperatures. Assist with assembling buffet lines or food stations as required.

Hygiene and Cleanliness:



Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at all times. Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces in compliance with food safety standards (e.g., HACCP). Assist with general kitchen cleaning duties, including dishwashing and waste management.

Food Safety and Storage:



Adhere to all food safety and hygiene regulations, ensuring proper food handling and storage. Assist with stock rotation (FIFO), labeling, and monitoring of food quality. Help with receiving and storing supplies, checking for quality and freshness.

Event & Catering Support:



Assist with packing, transporting, and setting up catering items for off-site events. Support in preparing service areas and replenishing food during catering functions. Work closely with service and logistics teams to ensure smooth event execution.

Teamwork and Communication:



Collaborate effectively with kitchen, service, and logistics teams. Follow instructions promptly and communicate clearly with senior chefs and supervisors. Demonstrate a positive attitude, reliability, and teamwork during busy service periods.

Training and Development:



Participate in on-the-job training to improve culinary and catering knowledge. Stay updated on company standards, food safety practices, and menu offerings.

Qualifications & Skills:



Experience:



Previous experience in a catering or kitchen environment is an advantage, but not required. Fresh graduates or individuals passionate about food preparation are encouraged to apply.

Skills:



Basic knowledge of food preparation and hygiene practices. Good teamwork, time management, and communication skills. Ability to follow instructions and maintain quality under pressure.

Energetic, responsible, and eager to learn. Flexible and adaptable to various event and kitchen setups. Strong attention to cleanliness, presentation, and customer satisfaction.
