  • Review all existing literature and research to provide detailed descriptions of the processes associated with terrestrial ecosystems and biological conditions, as well as the nature and characteristics of the potential impacts of hydropower dams.
  • Implement long-term monitoring programs by conducting biodiversity surveys and research to assess the health and biodiversity of ecosystems over hydropower project life cycles.
  • Develop and continuously improve biodiversity research strategies based on ongoing evaluation and research findings that address major issues of concern to the company to ensure sustainable practices and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Responsible for conducting in-depth research on the ecological impact of hydropower projects on wildlife, especially on but not limited to threatened species of amphibians and reptiles in and around hydropower project areas.
  • Managing research and ex-situ conservation facilities; responsibilities include coordinating internal/collaborative scientific studies, producing reports, overseeing breeding and reintroduction initiatives for amphibian and reptile, maintaining living laboratory and simulated habitats, and ensuring regulatory compliance to safeguard endangered species outside their natural surroundings.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing research methodologies, findings, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
THINKING ENVIRONMENT & CHALLENGES:
  • Foster good working relationships with key stakeholders, including existing and potential research collaborators. This includes engaging with government agencies, institutions and NGOs who may be involved in research in this field and document summary of findings.
  • Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues, project teams, and stakeholders to enhance their understanding of wildlife conservation and sustainable hydropower practices.
  • Keep abreast with global standards and guidelines relevant to wildlife and conservation ecology as well as technological advancement.
QUALIFICATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor\'s degree or higher in Zoology, herpetology, or a related field with a minimum of 3 - 4 years of experience in wildlife diversity and ecology research-related activities. Exposure to animal (amphibian and reptile) captive husbandry and reintroduction programs would be an added advantage.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of local wildlife fauna, including the ability to identify Bornean species of amphibians and reptiles, their behaviors, and biology. Additionally, demonstrates proficiency in research planning, wildlife impact mitigation, and conservation.
  • Has a comprehensive understanding of relevant environmental legislation, regulations, ordinances, and wildlife management framework.
Preference will be given to internal candidate.
