  • Deliver on operational and strategic commitments to support the organization in meeting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Hydropower Sustainability Standard (HSS) requirements for the Biodiversity and Invasive Species topic. Be responsible for providing scientific expertise and leadership in the relevant criteria of the company\'s Environmental Excellence aspiration.
  • Review all existing literature and research to provide detailed descriptions of the processes associated with wildlife, as well as the nature and characteristics of the potential impacts of hydropower dams, in accordance with international best practices for mitigation options related to wildlife and biological impacts.
  • Responsible for managing the entire spectrum of biodiversity assessment and monitoring activities for wildlife related components, from project initiation through execution, reporting, and documentation. Emphasis is placed on actively involving stakeholders for their valuable input in biodiversity-related initiatives. The role extends to crafting and implementing management action plans, leveraging insights from assessment and monitoring processes.
  • Produce scientifically credible environmental data evaluations and reports to provide management with advice on policies related to environmental regulations, hydropower development, and mitigation measures.
THINKING ENVIRONMENT & CHALLENGES (PROBLEM-SOLVING):
  • Develop and continuously improve biodiversity and invasive species monitoring and research programs for the company, addressing significant concerns by applying innovative ideas such as nature-based solutions.
  • Advise internal stakeholders in the implementation of biodiversity management plans, species conservation, and habitat protection, aligning with UN SDG Goal No. 15 (Life on Land) as well as IHA HSS Topic 6 on how to guide biodiversity and invasive species.
  • Stay agile with stringent global standards and guidelines relevant to biodiversity and sustainability, as well as technological advancements, to steer the company in this field.
  • To perform all tasks in line with the Information Security Quality Manual (ISQM) and the ISMS roles and responsibilities procedure.
  • To perform all tasks in line with the Information Governance Policy Suite and Guidelines.
  • Good command of different languages including Malay and other native languages.
  • Handling of scientific data with transparency and integrity.
  • Frequent travelling to rural interior locations or project sites in Sarawak.
  • Good understanding of customs and practices of local communities, particularly when conducting field work.
  • Ability to identify, anticipate, and analyse complex issues.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects, meet timelines and work under pressure.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective and productive working relationships, including with indigenous communities (local communities).
  • Ability to work in a field environment at remote project sites in a long period of time.
  • Ability to communicate well with good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to develop and deliver understandable scientific information to key stakeholders, the scientific community, public audiences, and senior top management.
  • Creative thinking may involve the identification of environmental thresholds in highly complex systems, and involvement in the design of integrated environmental monitoring programs.
  • High endurance and having basic survival skills in the jungle.
  • Good project management and presentation skills.
  • Excellent skills in using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Possess / display team leadership skills, integrity, accountability, and trustworthiness.
  • Analytical thinking, information seeking, plans activities effectively and results oriented.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting and leading teams for biological field work interior of Sarawak Energy project sites.

  • Good interpersonal skills are essential in establishing research collaboration and healthy working relationships with key stakeholders.
QUALIFICATION & WORK EXPERIENCE (KNOW-HOW):
  • A master\'s degree in biological science with specialization in the field of terrestrial ecology of biodiversity and environment conservation or equivalent with minimum 3 years of experience in wildlife research related activities.
  • Demonstrate expertise in various fields of terrestrial fauna research, community ecology, landscape ecology, and species identification (e.g., amphibians, birds, bats, mammals, plants etc.).
  • A record of publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals corresponding with established peers with a similar level of experience (e.g., working with local academic institutions).
  • Aware and knowledgeable of relevant environmental legislation, regulation, act and Wild Life Protection Ordinance, 1998 (Sarawak).
  • Extensive knowledge in advance numerical analysis of large environmental data sets, application of appropriate models or other means to predict local, regional, and cumulative impacts of a broad range of development and activities.
  • Familiar with the Sarawak\'s biodiversity and ecosystem types, topography, forest types and its wilderness.
