Job Description

We are looking for a Counsellor that will be responsible in providing academic, career, and personal counselling services to students, supporting their overall well-being and success throughout their university journey. This role involves guiding students on course selection and academic planning, assisting with career exploration and readiness, and offering confidential support for personal, emotional, or social challenges.

The counsellor will also design and deliver workshops, wellness initiatives, and student development programs, while collaborating closely with faculty, student affairs, and external professionals when referrals are required. Maintaining accurate records, ensuring confidentiality, and adhering to professional and ethical standards are essential.

The Counsellor serves as both a mentor and support resource, helping students reach their academic goals, prepare for future careers, and maintain a healthy balance between studies and personal life.

Responsibilities

Advise students on course selection, program requirements, and academic planning. Monitor academic progress and provide support for students on probation. Guide students in developing study skills, time management, and exam preparation strategies. Collaborate with faculty to identify students who may need additional support. Assist students in exploring career paths aligned with their strengths and interests. Provide guidance on internships, industrial placements, and graduate programs. Conduct workshops on resume writing, interview skills, and job search strategies. Liaise with employers, alumni, and industry partners for career opportunities. Offer confidential counselling for students facing personal, social, or emotional challenges. Provide crisis intervention when necessary (e.g., stress, grief, or adjustment difficulties). Refer students to external professionals (psychologists, medical staff) if needed. Promote student well-being initiatives (mental health awareness, stress management programs). Student Engagement & Development Encourage participation in co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Support students in building leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Mentor student groups, clubs, and organizations. Maintain accurate records of counselling sessions and student progress (confidentially). Prepare reports on student support activities and outcomes. Ensure compliance with university policies and ethical guidelines in counselling. Participate in staff training, professional development, and continuous learning.

Requirement



Bachelor's degree in Counselling, Psychology, Guidance & Counselling, or a related field. Must be a

registered / licensed counsellor

with the Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia(Board of Counsellors Malaysia). Practicing certificate ("Perakuan Amalan") may be required for legal and professional status. Completion of practicum / internship hours as part of training programs (e.g. in Bachelor or Master in Counselling programs). Practical exposure includes individual counselling, group sessions, assessment, programme delivery, and possibly crisis interventions. Experience in designing, leading, or facilitating developmental / mental health / personal well-being programmes, seminars, workshops Handling crisis situations (e.g. students in distress, emergencies) or at-risk students.

Pay: From RM3,000.00 per month
