The DC Plant Operator (Shift Lead) is responsible for providing comprehensive facility management services within the data centre, including continuous monitoring of all infrastructure systems. The role requires overseeing preventive and reactive maintenance of HV/LV infrastructure, supporting ad-hoc minor project activities, and ensuring compliance with statutory, contractual, and client standards.
The DC Plant Operator (Shift Lead) works closely with the Engineering Manager to manage routine operations, implement industry best practices, and drive operational excellence. The position also supervises multi-skilled engineering technicians and vendors, ensuring strict adherence to client and JLL policies and procedures. This role reports directly to the DC Engineering Manager.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations
Manage and coordinate service provider performance, including tracking work order completion and validating invoices.
Ensure site management and operations practices comply with company and client standards.
Escalate issues to relevant parties (Facility Manager, client, OEM vendors) as required.
Monitor turnaround times (TAT) with the Service Center, ensuring performance within agreed KPI thresholds.
Prepare and submit weekly incident reports for the Info Systems Project Management team.
Oversee daily monitoring of work orders, ensuring timely completion and follow-up with providers and clients.
Develop recurring vendor maintenance schedules and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Support the Engineering Manager in assigning tasks to technical staff.
Assist the Facilities Manager with sourcing materials, arranging contractors, and coordinating permits to work (PTW).
Validate contractor safety inductions and supporting documents prior to work commencement.
Maintain strong working relationships with client representatives and service providers.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Ensure a safe working environment in full compliance with HSE standards.
Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) where required.
Collaborate with the HSE Executive to plan and implement site safety procedures.
Provide direction to vendors, staff, and service providers to ensure safe and efficient work execution with minimal disruption to clients.
Act as an interface with clients, visitors, and guests while maintaining professional standards of service.
Compliance & Administration
Coordinate portfolio and responsibility updates with the data management team to ensure accurate service matrices.
Train vendors and engineers on applicable software platforms (e.g., CMMS).
Provide oversight for low-voltage electrical distribution activities.
Support space planning and utilization initiatives, including updating AutoCAD floor layouts.
Manage and monitor contractor permit-to-work (PTW) processes.
Undertake any other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma in Engineering or
A4 Chargeman Certification
(Suruhanjaya Tenaga).
Registered Electrical Worker (or equivalent certification).
3-4 years of experience in engineering, facility management, or construction services.
1-2 years of hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical systems in a
Tier III (or equivalent) data centre or critical facility
.
Strong experience in critical environments of comparable scale.
Proven track record in implementing continuous improvement initiatives and preparing operational reports.
