Position Details Academic, Full Time (Contract) Location: Miri, Sarawak
The Dean of Faculty provides academic, administrative and strategic leadership in relation to teaching and learning, research and development, staff professional development and professional and community engagement.
\xef\xbb\xbfKey responsibilities: \xef\xbb\xbfLeadership and strategic planning

  • \xef\xbb\xbfLead the Faculty in teaching and learning, research and development, scholarship and service to the University and community.
  • Lead the development of the Faculty\'s Operational Plan in line with the Campus Strategic and Operational Plans and the University\'s vision, mission and goals.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for expanding the range of courses offered by the Faculty.
  • \xef\xbb\xbfManage the Faculty\xe2\x80\x99s resources to ensure that they are used effectively and equitably.
\xef\xbb\xbfGeneral academic management
  • \xef\xbb\xbfFoster a culture of excellence across the Faculty.
  • \xef\xbb\xbfManage and administer the Faculty\xe2\x80\x99s teaching, research, professional and community activities.
  • Staff management and professional development.
  • Recruit and motivate a team of quality staff.
  • Lead performance management, mentoring and staff development of academic and professional and professional staff within the Faculty.
  • Develop strategies for increasing the proportion of staff holding doctoral qualifications.
Learning and Teaching
  • Promote improvement and innovation in learning and teaching.
  • Manage the processes for reviewing courses offered by the Faculty.
  • Oversee the processes for monitoring student performance and progress.
  • \xef\xbb\xbfLead the accreditation by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and professional associations of courses offered by the Faculty.
  • \xef\xbb\xbfManage relationships between the Faculty and relevant academic and administrative areas at Curtin Bentley.
\xef\xbb\xbfResearch and scholarship
  • \xef\xbb\xbfCreate an environment that fosters high quality research and development.
  • \xef\xbb\xbfDevelop strategies for increasing the research output of the Faculty, particularly in terms of publications in high impact academic journals.
  • \xef\xbb\xbfMonitor and promote research and scholarship across the Faculty.
  • Maintain a program of personal research.
Institutional policies and legislative compliance
  • \xef\xbb\xbfEnsure that staff of the Faculty comply with policies and procedures of Curtin Malaysia, particularly in relation to teaching and learning.
  • \xef\xbb\xbfEnsure that staff comply with legislative requirements in relation to occupational health and safety, equal employment opportunity, records management.
\xef\xbb\xbfRequired qualification:
  • A doctoral qualification and an internationally recognised record of academic/research achievement in a relevant discipline.

Essential Criteria:
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and inspire through clear vision, example, communication and personal influence within a complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated strategic management and negotiating skills, particularly to foster and maintain long-term in-depth relationships with industry, government and national/international communities.
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial and resource management skills in the development and mobilisation of resources, including the ability to administer a Faculty within policy and budgetary requirements.
  • \xef\xbb\xbf\xef\xbb\xbfDemonstrated high level organisational planning and implementation skills, which demonstrate creativity and ability to achieve results.
  • Proven capacity to foster a productive and active interdisciplinary research culture.
  • \xef\xbb\xbf\xef\xbb\xbfDemonstrated understanding of the tertiary education sector, including a sound knowledge of trends in management of contemporary universities in a rapidly changing environment.
  • \xef\xbb\xbfDemonstrated strong teamwork skills and the ability to promote a cooperative culture amongst colleagues and students.
  • \xef\xbb\xbfDemonstrated effectiveness in both written and oral communication, with well-developed cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • \xef\xbb\xbfA record of contribution to academic and community life that is consistent with Curtin\xe2\x80\x99s values and goals.\xef\xbb\xbf
