Warner Chappell Music\xe2\x80\x99s Digital team is responsible for growing revenues through all forms of digital exploitation and finding new and innovative ways to grow our business in a way that underlines the value of our incredible catalogue of work. The team is responsible for identifying, negotiating, and drafting contracts and working internally with the affiliates, Commercial, and Finance teams to ensure that all reporting is delivered accurately, and the relevant payments are made on time. In addition, the team works across multiple territories, either directly or in a support role, advising our international affiliates and sub-publishers. This role is a new position in the team and supports the VP, Digital, Asia Pacific, based in our Malaysia office.

This role will provide insight into data analysis, modeling, and structure to the deal-making process in the music publishing digital business and experience managing a robust and diverse flow of digital deals. You will interact with a diversified group of subject-matter experts to help craft the commercial terms and participate in the negotiation process. You will play a part in digital strategy, from direct dealing to creating partnership opportunities. You will assist the VP, Digital, Asia in driving digital revenue and growth in the Asia Pacific region, including but not limited to researching, analyzing, evaluating commercial terms, determining optimal deal structures, ensuring the deal models are supported by bulletproof backup, and presenting those deals to the various senior management teams as required. You will gain knowledge of how a music publishing company works, including an understanding of the various ways we exploit and monetize our rights and intellectual property. You will also track past digital deals to monitor their performance against the various deal models.

Digital Strategy

  • Performs research and analysis of business and industry developments for Digital Music
  • Maintains, tracks, and monitors deal status and progress, to ensure the deal progress is up-to-date and timely reports to the Global Digital team for significant potential deals
  • Collaborates with local, regional, and the global team from relevant supporting departments, such as Finance, Copyright and Royalties Administration (\xe2\x80\x9cAdmin\xe2\x80\x9d), and Legal, in providing solutions to digital-related matters, including digital rights flow, take-downs, etc.
Digital Deals Direct Negotiation
  • Support deal proposals with deal models and revise accordingly based on industry information, historical data, future assumptions, and ongoing negotiation points
  • Consults and collaborates with internal subject matter experts, such as Legal, Admin, and Finance, concerning deal terms, making proposals based on the risks and opportunities
  • Coordinates approval process with Regional and Global teams
  • Assists in direct negotiations with global or international Digital Service Providers (DSPs) and close commercial terms
Digital Deal Partnerships
  • Works closely with designated Collection Management Organisation (CMO) partners or local territory teams on regional and local digital deals
  • Guides and shares best practices on deal model assumptions and support (to the local teams) and ensure alignment of commercial terms to Global expectations
  • Follow up on deal status and monitor their progress to completion, depending on strategic priorities
Key Performance Measurements:
  • Drives, assists, and supports the growth of the digital music business in Asia
  • Provides expert advice and guidance to local teams on digital deals in a collaborative, effective, goal-driven, and results-focused environment
  • Provides strategic and digital support and direction to the Asia Pacific team
  • Management of the workload in a thorough, prompt, accurate, presentable, and, where appropriate, confidential manner
Rockstar candidates will be able to:
  • Degree in Business Management, economics, or related discipline.
  • With a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in MNC and matrix organizational structure.
  • Working experience in the media, entertainment, and/or creative industry would be advantageous.
  • Experience in business negotiation and ability to propose the best possible deal proposal
  • Be a strong communicator and negotiator. Ability to communicate at different position levels.
  • Possess a strong work ethic.
  • Handle and safeguard confidential information.
  • Strong organization skills and high attention to detail.
  • Being a self-starter with demonstrated experience juggling many projects/deals simultaneously is critical.
  • Technically strong in financial models and analytics. A high level of experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint with expertise in analysis, deal modeling, and presentation.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Mandarin as this role supports China, Hong Kong and Taiwan office.
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and understand materials and documents and to recognize and extract critical data and information.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and commit to turning deal analysis around quickly to ensure the company remains competitive in the marketplace.
  • A creative mindset for deal structuring is some of the necessary attributes required to succeed in this role.
  • Willing to travel as required
It would be music to our ears if you also had:
  • Relevant experience from business/corporate development, investment analysis, or deal office experience to succeed in this role.
  • MBA
  • Knowledge of the music or music publishing business would be helpful
  • Appreciation for music
  • Knowledge of other Asian language(s) e.g. Korean, is a plus
