The Equipment Engineering Director must have strong equipment engineering background and experience. They are responsible for deploying sputter equipment capabilities to meet technology, process capability, OEE & cost requirements for Media Manufacturing operations. Must lead extended team of Equipment and Maintenance resources to support design transfer/new product introduction (NPI), new hardware equipment specification, project management, uptime and availability initiatives, and all optimization efforts on existing process equipment. They will work closely with Media Operations Mfg site Process Engineering, Media Development Equipment & Process Engineering, Program Management, Procurement and Finance resources. This role reports dotted line to World Wide Equipment Snr Director.

Equipment Engineer Director will also have responsibilities for managing relevant internal resources and external suppliers/vendors to define, improve and monitor equipment reliability, OEE, throughput and process capability. They review, analyze and investigate equipment related downtime, product yields and provide root cause analysis and effective corrective actions. Being the in-house technical equipment expert, they are also hands-on technical individuals with strong troubleshooting skills providing guidance and support for driving operational uptime, and driving projects to address root cause issues related to equipment capability and reliability with new, novel and innovative solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct team of Equipment Engineer managers responsible for equipment specification and deployment, design and documentation review, tool/upgrade installation, and qualification. Ensure project is on schedule, and at the same time deliver with the highest quality by proactively identifying and correcting capability, reliability and maintenance issues early on. Assure accurate and detailed documentation and training for maintenance and equipment technicians.
  • Lead team(s) to drive continuous improvement programs to improve equipment performance and reliability, maximize Mean Productive Time Between Failure (MTBF), and Operational Uptime (AOU), and minimize Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
  • Drive activities to generate accurate and detailed documentation as well as training in basic and advanced maintenance and troubleshooting skills along with established best maintenance and safe practices.
  • Support response to downtime that occurs due to equipment or maintenance related incidents. Review, analyze and investigate equipment related downtime provide sound root cause analysis and timely effective corrective actions.
  • Work closely with process team to evaluate new hardware solutions and establish qualification criteria satisfying critical to quality (CTQ) parameters for production environment.
  • Take an active and leading role in following up on recurring issues leading efforts to bring tool up efficiently and effectively. Observe for learning and improvement opportunities across all functions. Follow through with the improvement actions.
  • Monitor, learn about and pursue applicable new equipment and process technologies for potential applications and implementations to further equipment capability in support of recording media roadmap.
  • Manage capital budget/spending for Media Equipment Engineering, define Capex requirement to support production build schedule, interface with Finance on spending outlook / forecast projections.
  • Actively manage change control for all enablers to support above, look for synergy opportunities with counterparts in other Media manufacturing sites, keep close alignment and provide relevant input to respective Development Equipment Engineer resources.
Qualifications
  • Highly motivated individual who has at least 15+ years\' experience with a B.S. or M.S. degree and a successful track record in equipment operations and sustaining experience, equipment design, and managing extended teams of Equipment and Maintenance resources in support of 24/7/365 high volume mass production environment
  • Degrees must be in mechanical, electrical or related Engineering or physical science.
  • The candidate must demonstrate technical capability and positive results in field of Thin Film process equipment and related critical sub-system hardware and controls.
  • Experience with Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) technology and equipment is highly desirable.
  • The applicant must be a strong problem solver, organized and quality driven.
  • Experience in Six sigma methodologies, SPC, data extraction and data analytics highly desirable.
  • Required experiences include in-depth understanding and proven demonstration of equipment design, development, and operations support, as well as good understanding of either semiconductor/wafer/recording media level processes and cleanroom requirements.
  • The position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong project management and people skills, and must be able to act as an active team leader or cross-functional team member to provide the best results to the teams and company.
  • Must know how to effectively work with engineers and technicians and be able to clearly transfer technical knowledge and instructions in an accessible manner.
  • PC skills include, MS Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. JMP, MATLAB. PLC experience highly preferred.
