About the job Director Government Affairs

Our client is a MNC automotive company with global presence and they are looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of Director Government Affairs. Key responsibilities of the role include the followings:

  • This role is accountable for the planning and negotiation of Government Incentives to support the growth of the company in Malaysia and South East Asia
  • Build and establish meaningful partnering relationships with government stakeholders and institutions including MIDA, MITI, MARii, MOF and MAA, serving as the key contact point for the company
  • This incumbent will be responsible for driving government affairs strategy, working closely with CEO Office, Product Planning, Business Development, Projects & Engineering, to maximize and unlock government funding and incentives to support the expansion of industrial and commercial activities of the company
  • Responsible for managing, developing and executing the Industrial Linkage Programme (ILP), maximizing utilization of available tax and duty benefits
  • Regularly monitoring the performance of ILP, facilitating audit and ensuring compliance within the policy
  • Responsible for optimizing and unlocking Government Grants and Tax Incentives, overseeing the entire process from strategy to planning to claims/reimbursement
  • Identifying existing and new Incentive and Grant schemes that may be applicable to the company
  • Preparing and submitting applications to the government and institutions
  • The position requires a deep understanding of the Malaysia automotive industry and industrialization/localization policies and with that have a sound knowledge of Custom Operations and Import and Export tax and policies
  • The position also manages Customs Operations and has 2 direct reports
  • Supporting New Projects and Model Launches, Applying for Model Approval, AP licenses and other importation licenses
  • Connect company business leaders to key government agencies and officials in Malaysia
  • Participate and actively engage in industry groups to understand the development of policies and regulations
  • Keep up-to-date of localization policy change in Malaysia and South East Asia
  • Identify, synthesize and cascade changes on the horizon to relevant stakeholders in the organization.
  • Complying with the companys ethics and integrity practices and policies at all times
Requirements * 10+ years of experience in relevant policy or regulatory environment automotive, manufacturing, transport, R&D
  • Well respected in the industry
  • Agile and hands-on mentality, enjoys a fast-paced environment, capability to prioritize and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively within a matrix team, and with a wide array of internal and external stakeholders on complex issues
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
  • Fluent in English and Bahasa Melayu is mandatory
  • Bachelors degree required, Master relevant field preferred
