General Overview Job Title: Director, Design Engineering 1 Functional Area: Engineering (ENG) Career Stream: Engineering (ENG) Role: Director 1 (DR1) Job Code: DR1-ENG-DSGN Job Band: 12 Direct/Indirect Indicator: Indirect Summary We are starting a new location in Penang. The Penang design team will work closely with our global design engineering teams in developing leading-edge Hardware Platform Solutions in Networking, Storage, and server solutions from general-purpose to customized Cloud, AI, machine learning, Edge, and 5G deployments. We are seeking a highly motivated and self-driven candidate qualified for the position of Director, Thermal Design to manage the market-leading Design Group. The successful candidate will lead a design and development group and will be responsible for engineering assignments related to hardware products as well as systems including the development of new products, updates to existing products, or sustaining current products. The candidate will be working closely with Product Marketing, Procurement, and Software teams to drive product definitions. Detailed Description Manage a thermal team for thermal design and testing of IT equipment, oversee and review thermal deliverables to ensure robust thermal solution implementation Manage thermal resources and schedule to ensure programs development was on schedule Lead team to deliver a comprehensive thermal proposal to support RFQs technical response within the required schedule Lead team to provide the optimal thermal solutions to meet product specifications and customer expectations, and work closely with other function teams like Software, and Mechanical teams to implement the detailed thermal solution. Lead team to establish and continuously improve the thermal process and guidelines Interface with thermal parts vendors to keep up to manage cost, quality, and functionality. Track leading-edge thermal technology and formulate thermal technology roadmap aligned with product line roadmap, the lead team on thermal technology research and adoption Hiring and mentoring new members Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Candidates should have 20+ years\' experience in thermal design/simulation/test validation for electronic product, IT equipment experience is preferred 5+ years of team management experience with 10+ team members, the experience of building a team from 0 to 1 is preferred Master degree or above in Thermodynamic or relevant Engineering Strong user of Flotherm as a CFD analysis tool. Transient analysis experience is a plus Expertise in various heat sinks, heat pipe, Vapor chamber design/selection, liquid cooling, or other advanced cooling technology is a plus Expertise in various fan speed control methodologies and over-temperature protection mechanism Familiar with thermal measurement technology and test tools such as temperature data logger, IR camera, wind tunnel, air speed meter etc. Knowledge about a 3D tool such as Creo is considered a plus Knowledge of switch/storage/server system architecture is a plus Familiar with industry-standard including NEBS, GR-63, ASHRAE TC9.9, MSA, etc. Excellent communication and presentation skills Physical Demands Typical Experience Candidates should have 20+ years\' experience in thermal design/simulation/test validation for electronic product, IT equipment experience is preferred 5+ years of team management experience with 10+ team members, the experience of building a team from 0 to 1 is preferred Typical Education Bachelor/ Master degree or above in Thermodynamic or relevant Engineering Notes This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities of the position.
