The Government Liaison Manager serves as the main connection between the company and relevant Malaysian government bodies. This role ensures that all business activities comply with current laws and regulations, while also supporting the company in obtaining necessary approvals, permits, and incentives. The position is critical in maintaining smooth collaboration with authorities and keeping the organization informed of regulatory developments that may impact operations.
Responsibilities
Act as the company's representative in dealings with ministries, agencies, and local authorities such as MITI, MIDA, KESUME, JPJ, Customs, Immigration, etc.
Build and sustain positive relationships with government officers and regulators to facilitate company matters.
Keep management updated on new or amended regulations that could influence business operations.
Coordinate company participation in government initiatives, incentives, or grant opportunities.
Manage the application, renewal, and maintenance of all required company licenses and permits.
Prepare and submit official documents, forms, and reports to relevant authorities accurately and on time.
Maintain a systematic record of all correspondence, approvals, and regulatory documents.
Assist during site inspections, audits, or official visits by regulatory agencies.
Provide internal guidance to departments on compliance and government-related requirements.
Brief management on regulatory risks, obligations, and policy updates.
Generate regular reports on liaison activities, applications, and follow-ups with authorities.
Represent the company at industry dialogues, public consultations, and official functions.
Engage with relevant trade associations or chambers to promote the company's interests.
Draft letters, reports, and official correspondence for submission to government bodies.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Law, Political Science, or any related field.
At least
5-7 years
of experience in government liaison, regulatory affairs, or a compliance-related function, preferably in logistics, manufacturing, or corporate settings.
Good understanding of Malaysian government structures, approval processes, and key regulatory agencies.
Excellent command of
Bahasa Malaysia and English
, both written and spoken.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
Well-organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Possess own transport and be willing to travel as required.
Strategic thinking and problem-solving ability.
Initiative and strong follow-through skills.
