Manager - Building & Maintenance Position

To provide oversight, supervision, and coordination of Building Maintenance department activities and operations, ensuring assigned activities are carried out in a coordinated manner with other units, divisions, outside agencies, and the public; and providing highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the management of CAE.

The role we are offering you:

Assumes responsibility for the services and activities of the department within the coordination and outside contractors performing facility repairs, facility improvements, and custodial functions.

Coordinates the organization, staffing, operational activities, participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; recommends and implements resulting policies and procedures.

Identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identifies resource needs; reviews with appropriate management staff; implements improvements.

Directs, coordinates, reviews the work plan for services and activities; establishes priorities of work orders; assigns work activities and projects; monitors work flow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, procedures; ensures the provision of quality maintenance repair services while meeting the company needs with the available budget; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems.

Coordinates the work of contractors; defines scope of work; obtains quotes; prepares contracts; approves payments; selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies and implements discipline.

Periodically inspects the condition of facilities and initiates corrective measures as necessary; ensures efficient energy utilization by buildings; performs energy audits; develops plans to improve energy efficiency.

Directs the development and implementation of plans and programs to improve the efficiency of maintenance operations including cost control programs, staff utilization studies, and work method improvements.

Oversees and participates in the maintenance of records and related documentation; prepares performance and other reports detailing building maintenance workload and activities.

Coordinates building maintenance activities with those of other units, divisions, and outside agencies and organizations; resolves sensitive and controversial issues.

Assists departments in the development and management of major and minor improvement projects for facilities, serves as staff on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees; prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary correspondence.

Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of building maintenance.

Responds to and resolves customer and staff inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely and effective manner.

Performs related duties as required by top management.

Our ideal candidate has:

Knowledge Operational characteristics, services, and activities of a building maintenance program, including preventative maintenance, facility repairs, facility improvements, and custodial functions.

Supervise, direct, and coordinate the work of lower-level staff, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluation.

Participate in the development and implementation of unit goals, objectives, and procedures.

Research, analyze, and evaluate new service delivery methods and techniques.

Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences, and implement recommendations in support of goals.

Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures, estimate time, material, and labor costs for maintenance and repair projects, and maintain records and files.

Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers, responding to requests and inquiries.

Diploma/Degree.

Minimum of 10 years of proven responsible experience in building/machinery/facility maintenance and repair programs.

Fluency in English

Working Conditions:

Required to travel with short notice.

Availability to work during weekends and public holidays, if necessary.

On-call availability 24 hours.

Long working hours during emergency breakdowns, events, and functions.

Work schedule subject to 24-hour emergency callbacks and standby, including weekends and holidays.

Work environment is both formal and informal, team-oriented, with routine and variable tasks and varying pace and pressure.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in building areas.
