BASF Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, established in 1997, provides infrastructure and utilities support services to BASF sites in Malaysia. BASF holds 60% of its joint venture BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn Bhd, which operates a state-of-the-art Verbund production site in the Gebeng Industrial Zone, Pahang, and 50% of Toray BASF PBT Resin Sdn Bhd. Objectives of the Position

  • To be responsible for the safe and profitable operation of Polymer Dispersion Plant, Pasir Gudang Site
  • Striving for Excellence in Safety, Health, Environment Protection, Production cost, Quality, Productivity and Moral Aspects
Main Tasks

OPERATIONS
  • Responsible for the effective & safe Operations of Polymer Dispersions Plant to meet the requirement of marketing /customers
  • To set goals and supervise Production, Production Planning & Controlling, Maintenance and Quality Assurance departments to ensure production activities are planned effectively thus preventing delivery constraints despite of low levels of inventories.
  • Identify, plan and provide resources required for unobstructed and cost-effective operation of Dispersions production Polyline1 & 2, catering to the market demand of business units.
  • Participate in all planned meetings as per site and business unit requirement.
  • Deputy to site Manager. Act as Site Manager in the absence of Site Manager.
  • Develop succession planning to improve the working efficiency, quality and professional skills of the team member.
  • Lead and develop employee as per BASF guideline to form the Best Team.
  • Establish and oversee the implementation of preventive maintenance: repairing programs thereby ensuring no interruption in production process and efficient use of machinery/equipment.
  • Establish communication with internal and external customers on need basis, to maintain and improve overall operations efficiency.
  • Ensure monthly plant inspection to identify processes that could result in a potential non-conformance.
  • Generate targets related to productivity, resources conservation, waste minimization and delegate down the line with action plan to achieve the targets.
  • Identify, plan and implement all actions to comply with the statutory requirements applicable to Dispersions plant operation.
  • To initiate and coordinate improvements of production processes thus increasing capacities, decreasing fixed costs and maintaining quality at a high level of reproducibility.
  • To support managers of PDP in preparing their cost center budgets and cost controls by reviewing at regular intervals.
  • To guide & support managers of PDP in troubleshooting complex technical problems.
  • Ensure operational consistency using training and development of system.
ENVIROMENT HEALTH &SAFETY
  • Accountable for all EHS related and legal requirements as stipulated by local regulations, BASF Directives and Responsible Care\xc2\xae requirements
  • To initiate and coordinate PDP\'s quality management activities including maintaining achievement of ISO 9001 certification, ISO 14001 certification and ISO 50001.
  • According to corporate, company and statutory EHS requirements, lead and monitor the implementation of the relevant safety and environment protection policies and procedures in all operation areas.
  • To implement and maintain a high standard of safety management including environmental and occupational health issues for Pasir Gudang Site.
  • Responsible for implementation of Responsible care\xc2\xae in Polymer Dispersions Plant.
  • Member of CIMT and SIMT to discuss the way out in case of Crisis.
  • Act as back-up SIMT Emergency Advisor in the absence of Site Manager.
  • Act as Incident Commander and guide the on-scene commander in case of Emergency in PDP
  • As a responsible person for process safety of Dispersions Plant, review and implement Process safety requirements on continual basis.
  • Identify, plan and implement all BASF EHS/RC directives/guidelines applicable to Dispersions plant operation.
  • Plan and implement improvement projects identified from audits, visits, directives and ideas from within and outside as applicable. Further, monitor the progress and report the same to the concerned
  • Continually improve safety records by addressing safety issues and employee safety attitudes.
  • Ensure that discharge/emission parameters from the plant are within the statutory limits and health & hygiene of the plant personnel are well maintained
  • Supervise the establishment and maintain the documentation system updated (rules / regulations, training, inspection and audit material / records, documented and filed according to the needs)
  • Ensure training about safety and procedures for the outsourced personnel regarding packing / housekeeping / finished product tanker loading activities.
  • Implementation of Covid-19 pandemic guidelines as per MOH.
  • Provide avenues to employees to raise their concerns- Suggestion Boxes, Action tracker, Bizagi and F2F talks.
OTHERS
  • To transfer technology from BASF SE to BASF Malaysia and vice-versa as per the requirement.
  • To initiate and coordinate improvements of business processes within PDP and optimizes processes across borders to other departments thus enabling a smooth functioning of inter-departmental interfaces.
  • To contribute to BASF Malaysia\'s quality management activities.
  • To initiate and coordinate activities to modify products as required by local and regional customers.
  • To organize technical support for customers in cooperation with Marketing Divisions, e.g.
  • troubleshooting technical problems at customer\'s site
  • commissioning production units for licensees of BASF technology
Minimum Education and Qualification Required for the Position
  • Education: Bachelor\'s degree in chemical engineering / Master\'s Degree in Chemistry
  • More than 15 years technical experience, plant/operations management preferred. Experience, skills and knowledge in various manufacturing disciplines including production, Technology, is preferred
  • Technical & Professional Knowledge:
  • Good interpersonal, time management skills with ability to interact in a multiple hierarchical level.
  • Continuous improvement techniques and methods including, overall asset effectiveness, Statistical techniques
  • Distributed control system operations / Safety instrumented system functions (SIS) for enhanced safety of the operations.
  • Competency with systemic approach for the root cause analysis.
