Power Systems is a global function that designs and develops Dysons internal technologies that enable most of our products. The team has experts in wide range of areas (mechanical, electrical, software, project management) and is responsible of the development from early stages through to production. About the role Due to a significant expansion in activities, the Global Power Electronics & Energy Storage Development Team has recently established a new laboratory at its Malaysian Development Centre. To support this team, we are now recruiting for a Lead Engineer with specific expertise in testing and developing products containing Li-ion cells and batteries. As part of the wider Power Systems Team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across different product categories and with teams from a range of engineering disciplines (Power Electronics, Electronics, Mechanical & Product Design, Procurement, Compliance, Quality etc etc). As a Lead Engineer you will also have responsibility for a small team of engineers as well as the day-to-day management of a dedicate laboratory equipped with specialist test equipment. Some of your tasks could include: Verification and qualification testing of new li-ion cells and energy storage solutions. Performance evaluation of li-ion cells under a complex set of System Requirements derived from Product level Requirements. Designing, implementing and delivering test plans that further our understanding of cell degradation under product conditions and consumer usage scenarios. Partnering with development teams to translate product level goals into cell and pack level performance targets responsible for defining technical requirements and feasible deliverables. Concept development & top-level scheduling of project plans. Fault-finding & Root cause analysis of issues. Mentor and ambassador for group working with teams in both the UK and SEA as the subject matter expert on Batteries & Energy Storage Technologies. Supplier relationships. Review work completed by others and where appropriate, be prepared to provide guidance and mentoring support to team members. Line Management responsibilities for a small team About you You should hold a degree in a relevant Engineering or Scientific discipline. Ideally, we would like candidates to hold a higher-level degree e.g. Masters or PhD, again in a relevant field but a postgraduate qualification is not essential, especially if you have relevant industrial experience instead. You should also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of Battery Technologies, especially Li-Ion, their fundamental electrochemical processes and their application in product environments. Capability to communicate complex issues to non-specialists in the field of Batteries and Electrochemistry will also be an essential skill set (you will be asked to demonstrate your presentation and communication skills as part of the interview process). We would like you to be a proficient user of industry standard battery cyclers e.g. Maccor, Arbin, Bitrode, Solartron, Biologic etc. (Maccor experience is preferred). A working understanding of Battery Management Hardware and Embedded Battery Management Software is also desirable. Malaysia Development Centre: A world-class development centre In 2003, after 10 years of rapid expansion in the UK, Malaysia was chosen as an additional location to allow the continued growth of Dysons manufacturing and testing facility. It was close to component manufacturers and much of the supply chain, as well as providing very high levels of manufacturing quality. Over time, Dyson operations expanded in Malaysia. Having started out with a team of just 10, today our Malaysia Design Centre has grown to be a base for more than 1,200 skilled Dyson people working across Engineering, IT, Finance, Creative and HR. Our Johor facility had humble beginnings, but what was originally a few small labs covering 350m is now a bustling campus occupying 50,000m, including state-of-art acoustic chamber, environmental chamber, and rapid prototyping facilities.
