Job Description


The Centre of Excellence for Research in AIDS (CERiA) at the University of Malaya is the premiere centre for clinical and behavioural research on HIV treatment and prevention in Malaysia. Position Focus: We are seeking a dedicated HIV Counsellor to join our research team for a study on HIV prevention and treatment among men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) in Malaysia. The ideal candidate is expected to be familiar with cultural and social nuances that impact this community and will be committed to supporting MSM and TGW in online self-testing and linkage to care. This role would require flexibility in terms of time where weekend and evening hours may be needed to accommodate for the schedule of research participants. Education Level: The candidate should have at least a bachelor\'s degree in public health, medical science, psychology, counselling, or a related field. Essential Duties: This list is intended to be illustrative and does not represent an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Provide pre- and post-test counselling, and providing appropriate referrals for additional support or medical care. 2. Conduct follow-up counselling sessions to support ongoing risk reduction, adherence to treatment, and retention in care. 3. Collect and manage sensitive participant data with the utmost confidentiality and in compliance with ethical research standards. 4. Collaborate with healthcare providers, community organizations to enhance linkage to care and support services. 5. Assist research team in all research activities such as recruitment, retention of participants, providing administrative support. 6. Stay informed of the latest developments in HIV treatment and prevention, particularly as they relate to the MSM and transgender communities. Other Requirements: 1. Establish and maintain working relationships 2. Willingness to learn and stay updated on relevant information. 3. Willingness to travel and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required by the study protocol. 4. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical research principles. 5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions and ages. 6. Experience in HIV counselling or working with MSM and transgender populations is highly preferred. 7. Fluency in English and another language (Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese, Tamil, etc) 8.
