Mokky's is a fast-growing, homegrown pizza brand with currently 7 outlets across Malaysia and an ambitious pipeline of new openings in 2026-2028. We are known for bold flavours, playful branding, great value, and vibrant, Instagram-friendly outlets that create memorable guest experiences.
As we move away from external design agencies, we are building our first in-house design team to give Mokky's a stronger, more consistent brand identity while keeping every new outlet fresh, on-brand, and operationally efficient.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Lead Designer (Interior Design / Retail & F&B focus) to head our new in-house design department. You will be the creative force behind all upcoming Mokky's outlets and major refurbishments, reporting directly to the Founders/CEO.
This is a full-time position based in Kuala Lumpur (preferably near PJ, Damansara or Subang area). Hybrid work is possible, but frequent site visits across Malaysia are required.
Key Responsibilities
Own the complete interior design process for all new Mokky's outlets from concept to handover (10-15 new stores planned in the next 24-36 months).
Develop and evolve Mokky's visual and spatial brand identity while keeping it youthful, bold, fun and highly photogenic.
Create full design packages: mood boards, concept presentations, 3D renders, detailed drawings (plans, elevations, sections), material & finish schedules, furniture & lighting specifications, signage & graphic integration.
Collaborate closely with the operations, marketing, and project management teams to balance aesthetics, guest experience, operational efficiency, durability and budget.
Lead and grow the in-house design team (you will start as the first member, with 1-2 junior designers and a draftsman to be hired under you in 2026).
Manage external contractors: architects, M&E consultants, lighting designers, graphic designers, contractors and suppliers.
Conduct site surveys, produce tender drawings and supervise construction to ensure design intent is executed perfectly.
Build and maintain a library of approved materials, vendors and cost benchmarks for faster future roll-outs.
Occasionally contribute to limited-time outlet themes, seasonal campaigns or pop-up concepts.
Who We're Looking For
Minimum 3-5 years of interior design experience with strong emphasis on F&B, retail or hospitality projects.
Proven track record of designing and executing at least 4-8 F&B or lifestyle retail outlets (portfolio must show completed projects, not just renders).
Degree/Diploma in Interior Design, Architecture or equivalent.
Expert in AutoCAD, SketchUp (or Revit), Photoshop, Illustrator and 3D rendering software (Lumion, Enscape, V-Ray or similar). Knowledge of Blender is a bonus.
Deep understanding of Malaysian building regulations, BOMBA requirements, and local authority submissions for F&B premises.
Strong project management skills - able to deliver on time and within budget.
Excellent vendor network in Malaysia (contractors, furniture makers, lighting suppliers, signage fabricators, etc.).
Passion for pizza, youth culture, social media trends and creating spaces people want to photograph and share.
Leadership potential - you enjoy mentoring juniors and building a team.
Willing to travel frequently within Malaysia for site visits and supervision.
