Purpose of the role The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing advice and assistance on a range of legal subjects at TEAM LEWIS. The Legal Counsel will provide professional and high-quality legal advice, but also apply a commercial perspective to their legal work and give advice that is appropriate to the needs of the agency and the business. This person will provide support to the other members of the global legal team as required. This person will give advice to internal client contacts at TEAM LEWIS (including but not limited to account servicing, creative, new business, finance, HR and marketing teams) and liaise with third parties outside TEAM LEWIS (including clients, suppliers, government and regulatory authorities) to advance and protect the interests of TEAM LEWIS. The role is regional in scope with some support also required to assist the UK / EMEA team. This role will be a maternity cover for 4 months. You are expected to be comfortable to work in a fast paced, international environment. With a strong collaborative spirit, you understand how to best apply this attitude to a growing global organization. Core Responsibilities Client Service Contracts Lead in the drafting and negotiation of client service agreements in APAC, and support in UK / EMEA both in relation to internal and external clients Advise as necessary on other client services agreements Work with the global legal team to develop client contract templates and policies for use across LEWIS, and update templates and policies as and when needed Create and promote contracting best practices across TEAM LEWIS Work closely with the finance and account servicing teams with respect to new and ending contracts and billing terms. Responsibility for maintaining an effective contract management system Provide legal advice In addition to client service contracts, draft and negotiate other significant commercial contracts including with suppliers, partners and property contracts Advise on and give assistance to the finance team on the agency\'s debt recovery matters Lead, or be closely involved, with all potential and actual legal disputes Keep abreast of legal developments relevant to the business and disseminate legal and commercial knowledge associated with the LEWIS business including: local and global marketing laws, privacy, corporate, intellectual property, real estate, contract and employment laws Assist with corporate expansion, corporate entity management, acquisition and divestment plans in the region Provide other legal advice associated with the TEAM LEWIS business including: local and global marketing laws, privacy, intellectual property, real estate, contract and employment laws Legal Compliance and Managing Risk Assist with development and implementation of company policies Stay up-to-date with new company initiatives including new areas of business, and provide legal advice accordingly Negotiate and control the region\'s insurance policies Produce and provide training and other materials to improve compliance and managing risks General Be a cultural ambassador: promoting initiatives, using Yammer and all social media channels to showcase the legal team\'s activity and upcoming projects etc. Contribute and support the continuous improvement of systems, practices and policies ensuring they underpin our Company culture Perform ad hoc duties as required About You This role is expected to have the following qualifications, skills, knowledge, and industry experience: You will be a qualified lawyer (preferably in a common law jurisdiction, i.e Hong Kong or Singapore -- with minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience (in-house or in private practice). Proven ability to draft and negotiate contracts in English and another regional language. Strong legal knowledge in contract law and strong experience with advising on commercial contracts is essential. Good knowledge of general legal principles around intellectual property, company, employment, and property laws are desirable. You will be well organised, excellent at planning and an effective communicator. You should have a broad array of commercial experience and know how to deliver commercially focused and tailored advice. You should be interested in learning about new areas of law. You must be confident and be able to negotiate with external parties. Having some knowledge of word, excel and general affinity for information systems will add to your efficiency. Experience of the public relations, media or technology sectors would be advantageous but not essential.
