The Machinist (3D/5-Axis) is responsible for operating and programming 3D CNC and 5-axis milling machines to produce high-precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. This role requires strong technical expertise in machining processes, CAD/CAM software, quality inspection, and machine maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
1. CNC Operation & Programming
Operate and set up 3D CNC milling machines and 5-axis machining centers.
Create and modify CNC programs using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidCAM, NX, or equivalent).
Optimize machining processes to improve efficiency and reduce cycle time.
Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machining parameters.
2. Production & Quality Control
Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T symbols, and 3D models.
Manufacture parts with high accuracy and tight tolerances.
Perform in-process and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, CMM (if applicable), and other measuring tools.
Ensure parts meet quality standards and customer specifications.
3. Machine Maintenance
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC machines.
Ensure machines, tools, and equipment are in good working condition.
Maintain cleanliness and organization in the machining area.
4. Documentation & Reporting
Record production data, machine settings, and quality inspection results.
Report any defects, deviations, or machine issues to supervisors.
Follow company SOPs, safety guidelines, and ISO standards.
Requirements
Certificate/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field.
Minimum 2-3 years experience in CNC machining (3D or 5-axis).
Strong knowledge of CAD/CAM software and CNC G-code.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and 3D models.
Good understanding of machining tools, cutting parameters, and materials.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and teamwork.
