Location: Miri, Sarawak

The Manager of Residence Life and Services at Curtin University Malaysia is responsible for leading and overseeing the holistic residential experience, ensuring a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive living environment for students. This position is dedicated to fostering a sense of community and promoting student success through the effective and efficient management of the residences and its tenants and implementation of engaging programs, services, and resources that contribute to students\' personal development well-being.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Provide residential community leadership.
  • Provide services to support student\xe2\x80\x99s well-being.
  • Design, implement and coordinate residence life programs.
  • Responsible for crisis management and emergency response.
  • Recruit, train and supervise a team of residence life staff and foster their development to enhance their skills.
  • Oversee the day to day operations of residence space and accommodation and ensuring facilities are well maintained.
  • Develop, review and update residence life policies and guidelines in alignment with the university\'s mission and values and ensure its compliance.
  • Oversee and manage the residence life budget, ensuring that resources are used effectively and efficiently within budgetary constraints.
  • Perform data analysis and assessment to assess program effectiveness and continuous improvement initiatives.
Selection Criteria:
  • A bachelor degree in a relevant field from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in residence life or related field, with at least 2 years experience in a supervisory role.
  • Strong leadership abilities, including the capacity to motivate and inspire staff, guide decision-making processes, and foster a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills and able to interact and work collaboratively with residences from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to actively listen, empathize, and convey information clearly.
  • Experience in handling conflicts and challenges with strong mediation and problem-solving skills to address issues effectively and maintain a harmonious living environment.
  • Experience in developing and executing engaging programs and activities that promote residence involvement and build a sense of community.
  • Culturally sensitive and able to support the needs of international and culturally diverse students, fostering an inclusive and respectful living environment.
  • Experience in handling emergencies, responding to crises, and implementing comprehensive emergency preparedness plans to ensure the safety and security of residents.
  • Effective organizational skills to oversee various aspects of residential life, such as room assignments, budget management, staffing, and program planning, to ensure smooth operations.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data related to residence life, student satisfaction, and program effectiveness to inform evidence-based decision-making and continuously improve services.
  • Ability to build and and maintain collaborative partnerships with other departments in the university and offer a comprehensive support network for residents.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call duty as needed.
