Develop a solid understanding of Garmin's manufacturing needs and challenges across SMT, assembly, packing and testing lines, and track industry applications of technologies such as AI Agents, 3D Picking and Omniverse-based synthetic data to assess their potential value for our factories.
Analyze how these technologies can improve process efficiency, reduce cost, or streamline workflows, and identify use cases that are truly aligned with real production requirements.
Interns will be assigned to one or two of the following topics based on their background and interests, and will work closely with the engineering team:
1. AI Agent & Workflow Automation:
Assist in designing and testing AI Agents for software development workflows, such as:
Converting requirements/specs into test cases
Decomposing work items and suggesting task breakdowns
Performing preliminary checks on SQL / source code and providing suggestions
Organize common issues and error patterns, summarize recommended handling approaches, and help build standardized checklists and recommendation templates.
Develop simple scripts or small tools to transform AI outputs into directly usable formats for the team.
2. 3D Picking & Robotics Research:
Collect and organize public resources related to 3D picking and robot vision (papers, technical reports, commercial product information).
Compare different solutions in terms of advantages and limitations (e.g., accuracy, application scenarios, constraints, implementation difficulty), and produce structured comparison matrices.
Summarize typical 3D picking pipelines (sensing, recognition, pose estimation, grasp planning, etc.) to help the team quickly understand feasible technical options and combinations.
3. Omniverse Synthetic Data & Digital Factory Documentation:
Study Omniverse and related synthetic data tools, including usage patterns and application scenarios, and plan dataset structures and labeling requirements suitable for factory environments.
Help design synthetic data generation workflows (scene configuration, camera setup, randomization strategy, output format planning).
Review generated samples, identify data quality issues and potential risks, and propose concrete improvement suggestions.
Help establish and maintain data structures and documentation for the digital factory (e.g., station /equipment/process parameter tables, naming conventions, scene/data update procedures).
In addition to the topics above, depending on project progress and factory needs, you may also work on studies related to material storage layout and in-factory transportation / flow optimization.
(Cross-topic task)
Help design test plans that can be executed in internal lab or simulation environments, mimicking real production scenarios, and organize test data and observations into structured summaries.
Routine Tasks
Maintain weekly experiment and research logs, including hypotheses, settings, results, and observations, ensuring traceability and reproducibility.
Assist in drafting and organizing reports, meeting notes, and presentation materials, turning technical content into clear and understandable text and visuals.
Join regular online sync meetings with the team, report progress, issues, and risks, and work with mentors to adjust plans.
