INTRODUCTION TO STONYHURST INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, PENANG Stonyhurst International School Penang is a co-educational School for pupils from 3 years to 18 years from all religious denominations and secular belief systems. The School aims to be the premier values-based international school in Penang, focussed on achieving the best possible academic outcomes for students alongside developing pupils who are critical thinkers, problem solvers and most importantly, are inspired to be men and women for others. Stonyhurst International School, Penang offers a truly unique educational experience for students through our deeply personalised learning, coaching, advisory and counselling programmes. Students are offered explicit opportunities to work alongside both older and younger students as part of their coaching group, developing a genuine sense of cohesion and friendship between our senior and junior students. All of our students undergo coaching and advisory training and take an active part in mentoring students across the School. Stonyhurst International School opened in September 2022 with a first year enrolment of 340 students from Nursery through to Year 9. Over the following years the School will expand to a maximum enrolment of approximately 1200 students. Our curriculum framework has the Jesuit Pupil Profile at its centre and this is expressed at all levels of the School. The development of values and community service are a key component of learning at all levels as is our commitment to provide a robust and varied programme of after school activities.
THE ROLE We are seeking to recruit a Primary Music teacher to join our Music Department with the expertise, innovation, maturity and drive needed to continue the development of a stimulating and happy learning environment that caters for all pupils. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with previous international school experience and experience in start-up schools. This will be a highly rewarding and professionally challenging position; the successful candidate will be joining a thriving Music department in its second year, along with the founding Head of Music. They will primarily be leading EYFS and Junior School Music, but should be prepared for teaching some Senior School lessons if needed. The successful candidate will first and foremost be pastorally minded with a genuine regard and care for young people, at Stonyhurst International School we expect all our teachers to be pastoral leaders and to support the school in the holistic development of every child.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS The successful applicant will be required to have the following:

  • A B.Ed. or Degree and PGCE with exceptional subject knowledge.
  • At least 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience of teaching Music in a Primary Setting
  • We are seeking to appoint talented, highly motivated and well-qualified individuals. You should have a proven track record of outstanding learning and teaching.
  • A mindset which understands all students have the potential for top performance, and the drive and passion to enable them to do so.
  • Experience and willing to contribute to a growing co-curriculum programme including choir, orchestra, school productions, and other whole school Music events.
  • Experience in a reputable international school would be highly regarded.
  • Due to Malaysian registration requirements, all teachers must be vaccinated against Covid 19.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT Salary The school will offer successful candidates a competitive salary package including housing allowance, end of service gratuity, medical insurance and airfares for the teacher, spouse and dependants along with fees remission for up to two dependent children. The post will be offered subject to satisfactory references, a medical examination and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
