To ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) regulations, proper handling of chemicals, and adherence to environmental laws (DOE), thereby maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally sustainable workplace.
Key Responsibilities
1.
Occupational Safety & Health (OSH)
Implement and monitor safety & health policies in line with DOSH and company requirements.
Conduct hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control (HIRARC).
Enforce compliance with use of PPE and safe work practices.
Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses.
Submit statutory reports (e.g., JKKP 6, JKKP 8) to DOSH.
2.
Chemical Safety Management
Ensure safe storage, labeling, and handling of all chemicals (dyes, auxiliaries, solvents, etc.).
Maintain
Chemical Register
and
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS)
for all substances.
Conduct
Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA)
with registered assessor.
Monitor employees' exposure to chemicals and arrange for
Occupational Health Doctor (OHD) medical surveillance
when required.
Train employees on chemical handling and emergency spill response.

Environmental (DOE Compliance)
Ensure compliance with
Environmental Quality Act 1974
and DOE regulations.
Monitor and record emissions, effluents, scheduled waste, and noise levels.
Handle
Scheduled Waste Management
(SW 3, SW 4, SW 9, etc.) in compliance with DOE requirements.
Maintain
DOE logbook
and ensure proper scheduled waste labeling, storage, and disposal via licensed contractors.
Submit DOE-related reports such as

Support ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (if applicable).

Emergency Preparedness
Develop and maintain Emergency Response Plan (ERP) covering chemical spills, fire, explosion, and environmental pollution.
Coordinate fire-fighting, chemical spill response, and evacuation teams.
Ensure availability of spill kits, firefighting equipment, and first-aid kits.
5.
Training & Awareness
Conduct safety induction and environmental awareness programs.
Provide training on PPE usage, chemical safety, spill response, and scheduled waste handling.
Promote continuous improvement culture in OSH & environmental protection.
Qualifications & Requirements
Malaysian citizen, 21 years and above.
Registered with
DOSH as OSH Coordinator
(for <100 employees) or
SHO (Green Book)
if >100 employees.
Completed DOSH-approved OSH Coordinator course.
Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or Engineering.
Familiar with
OSHA 1994, FMA 1967, EQA 1974
, and related regulations.
At least
2-3 years' experience
in safety, chemical, and environmental compliance (preferably in textiles/chemicals).
Strong knowledge of
DOE scheduled waste management
and chemical handling.
