The Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining manufacturing processes for cosmetic products such as skincare, lotions, creams, serums, shampoos, and other personal care items. This role ensures production efficiency, product consistency, quality compliance, and continuous improvement of blending, filling, and packaging operations.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Process Development & Optimization
Develop and improve manufacturing processes for blending, emulsification, heating/cooling, mixing, filling, and packaging.
Optimize process parameters (RPM, time, temperature, mixing speed, homogenizing pressure) to ensure product consistency.
Work with R&D to scale up formula from lab scale to pilot scale to mass production.
Troubleshoot process-related issues including batch inconsistency, separation, viscosity deviation, or yield loss.
Conduct time studies to identify bottlenecks and improve productivity.
B. Production Support
Provide technical guidance to production, blending, and filling teams on process controls.
Review and approve Batch Manufacturing Records (BMR) and SOPs for new and existing products.
Ensure processes comply with GMP, ISO, Halal, and safety standards.
Assist in trial runs, pilot batches, and validation batches.
C. Equipment & Technology
Evaluate and recommend blending tanks, mixers, homogenizers, vacuum emulsifiers, pumps, and filling machines.
Work with Maintenance Department to ensure equipment calibration and performance stability.
Participate in machine commissioning, FAT/SAT testing, and preventive maintenance planning.
D. Quality & Compliance
Collaborate with QA/QC to ensure all batches meet specifications (pH, viscosity, appearance, microbial limits).
Investigate process deviations, non-conformities, or customer complaints.
Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) related to process issues.
Ensure proper documentation for audits, certifications, and regulatory compliance.
E. Cost & Efficiency Improvement
Identify opportunities to reduce material usage, batch cycle time, energy consumption, and labour cost.
Implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and 5S practices in production lines.
Analyze batch yield, wastage, and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
F. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare SOPs, WI (Work Instructions), and process flow charts.
Maintain process change documentation and engineering change requests (ECR).
Prepare monthly process performance reports (downtime, productivity, batch rejection, yield).
Support new product launch documentation and process validation reports.
3. Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
Minimum
2-5 years experience
in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, food, or chemical manufacturing.
