Seeking an Experienced Documentary Producer/Scriptwriter Signal Flare is seeking a talented and versatile Documentary Producer/Scriptwriter who is fluent in Bahasa Malaysia, with a passion for storytelling and extensive experience in documentary production. As a Producer cum Scriptwriter, you will play a pivotal role in the development, production, and delivery of an upcoming documentary project. This position is project-based and requires a proactive, creative, and detail-oriented individual to bring the vision to life. Key Responsibilities Project Development: Lead the development of the documentary, conducting in-depth research, identifying potential documentary subjects, and crafting a captivating narrative that aligns with the project\'s objectives. Develop a comprehensive project plan that outlines the production timeline, milestones, and deliverables. Scriptwriting: Write a compelling and well-structured script in Bahasa Malaysia and English, effectively conveying the documentary\'s storyline, interviews, and key messages while ensuring cultural relevance and accuracy. Production Management: Oversee all aspects of the production process, including pre-production planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource management. Coordinate and collaborate with various teams, including camera crews, editors, sound engineers, and directors, to ensure smooth execution of the project. Manage production schedules, location scouting, recce, shoot logistics, and equipment needs to ensure efficient and cost-effective production. Ensure the smooth execution of the project from start to finish. Team Coordination: Collaborate with a diverse team of researchers, camera crews, editors, and other production staff to ensure seamless coordination and efficient execution of the documentary. Conducting Interviews: Conduct interviews with subjects and key stakeholders, demonstrating sensitivity and empathy to capture authentic and impactful stories. Ensure interviewees feel comfortable and respected, fostering an environment conducive to sharing their stories. Client Management and Communication: Serve as a point of contact for clients and stakeholders, providing regular updates on the project\'s progress, research findings, and production milestones. Maintain clear and professional communication with clients, addressing their inquiries and ensuring their input is incorporated into the documentary as appropriate. Fact-Checking: Verify the accuracy of information, interviews, and sources used in the documentary to maintain journalistic integrity and credibility. Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity when depicting individuals and communities from diverse backgrounds, ensuring respectful representation. Seek feedback from cultural advisors or community representatives to ensure accurate portrayal and avoid potential misinterpretations. Budget Management: Manage the documentary\'s budget effectively, making prudent decisions to allocate resources efficiently. Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising the production\'s quality and impact. Post-Production Supervision: Work closely with the editing team to provide creative input and guidance during the post-production phase, ensuring the final product aligns with the project\'s vision. Review rough cuts and provide feedback to ensure the documentary aligns with the project\'s vision and storytelling objectives. Quality Control: Ensure the documentary\'s production adheres to high-quality standards, meets the project\'s objectives, and aligns with Signal Flare\'s storytelling values. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges throughout the production process and develop contingency plans to mitigate them. Stay updated on industry regulations, legal considerations, and ethical guidelines pertaining to documentary production. Requirements Fluent in spoken and written Bahasa Malaysia and English. The candidate must possess exceptional language skills to craft engaging and impactful scripts in Bahasa Malaysia and English. Proven track record in producing and scriptwriting for documentary films. The candidate should demonstrate a portfolio of successful documentary projects that showcase their storytelling abilities and production expertise. Familiarity with various documentary formats, including short-form, feature-length, and episodic series, is desirable. A deep understanding and appreciation of Malaysian culture, traditions, history, and societal issues. The candidate should be able to portray cultural nuances accurately and respectfully in the documentary. Awareness of cultural sensitivities and the ability to navigate potentially sensitive subjects with empathy and respect. Excellent research abilities to uncover compelling untold human stories and identify relevant subjects, locations, and historical contexts for the documentary project. The capacity to gather accurate and reliable information from various sources, including interviews, archives, academic papers, and other reference materials. Strong organizational and project management skills to oversee all aspects of the documentary\'s production, including pre-production planning, shooting schedules, and post-production timelines. Ability to manage budgets, allocate resources efficiently, and ensure the project stays within financial constraints. Effective collaboration and communication skills to work harmoniously with a diverse team of researchers, camera crews, editors, directors, and other production staff. The capacity to foster a positive and collaborative working environment that encourages creativity and productivity. A creative and innovative approach to storytelling, with the ability to bring fresh perspectives to the documentary project.
