Accountable for all elements of product development operation.
Direct people management for team members, provision, and operation of the team facilities.
Prioritisation and efficient use of team resources.
Ensuring that the department meets its key deliverables and KPIs
The role includes membership of the senior leadership team.
Influencing and committing to a company strategy and ensuring that the department fulfil its role in this strategy.
Preparing and communicating departmental reports
Setting the department budget and ensuring the department costs are kept within this agreed budget.
Providing a strategic and long term vision for product development within the Company, supporting local, associate and export businesses
Essential - To have a good technical understanding of bakery ingredient formulation and application, bread and confectionery.
Desirable - knowledge of flour correction and fortification as used by millers. Able to discuss this expertly with peers both within the Company and with customers.
To present the Company\'s innovation and technology to customers to assist in business development.
Commercially aware, understanding the need for product development to produce formulae which meet cost in use targets.
Experience of collaboration with manufacturing, ensuring developments can be successfully scaled up for production
To bring knowledge and technical analysis during times of product crisis and to assist the business to resolve the issue quickly and effectively.
Represent the business and team with customers during times of crisis to help assure customers that the issue is in hand and can be resolved
Supporting sister companies and ensuring that information is shared with sister companies
The Successful Applicant
Bachelor\'s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field. A master\'s degree is preferred.
Proven experience in product development, preferably within the food industry, with a focus on bakery and confectionery products.
Strong knowledge of ingredient functionality, formulation, and food processing techniques.
Familiarity with market trends, consumer preferences, and regulatory requirements in the bakery and confectionery sector.
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication and presentation skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
