Job Scope / Responsibilities
1. Coating Design
Develop and optimize optical coating designs to meet customer and internal requirements (e.g., AR, bandpass, shortpass, longpass, and dichroic coatings).
Utilize basic thin-film optics knowledge; advanced design capability will be an added advantage.
Support simulation, design validation, and performance analysis.
Collaborate with production to ensure coating feasibility, manufacturability, and consistency.
2. Coating Costing
Prepare accurate coating cost estimations for customer RFQs and internal projects.
Analyze and break down cost elements such as material usage, cycle time, chamber utilization, manpower, and expected yield.
Maintain and update costing database to reflect current materials, processes, and market conditions.
Ensure competitiveness and profitability in all coating quotations.
3. New Product Introduction (NPI)
Lead and support NPI projects from concept, prototype, qualification, to volume production.
Conduct feasibility studies and prepare coating samples for evaluation.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Design, QA, Production, and Sales) to ensure smooth project transfer into mass production.
Track and document NPI milestones, performance data, and customer feedback.
Drive continuous improvements in cycle time, yield, and performance during NPI.
Requirements
Degree/Diploma in Physics, Materials Science, Optics, Engineering, or related field.
Basic knowledge in thin-film optics, optical filter design, or vacuum coating technology.
Experience with coating design software (e.g., TFCalc, FilmStar, OptiLayer, Macleod) is an added advantage.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate across departments.
