GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

  • Chemist executes research and product development activities leading to new products (NPD) as well as technologies (TD) with supervision from R&D Director / Sr Manager / Manager R&D in accordance to project time frame, budget allocations, and ensure compliance to QMS and design and development control procedures.
  • He/she shall manage the research laboratories and work closely with laboratory technicians on the daily operations.
What would your role look like?

Reporting to the Manager, you will:
  • Chemist plans, manages and conducts laboratory and manufacturing plant experiments for the development of new products and technology development projects with some guidance from supervisor; designs (in terms of formulations, process parameters, etc), plans, coordinates or delegates as necessary, conducts factory trials and process validation trials in Ansell plants and 3rd party sites as appropriate, which includes travel to these sites; prepares and/or supervises preparation of experimental and plant trial protocols and reports to ensure completion in a timely manner.
  • Engages in hands-on experiments, remaining close to the laboratory work of co-workers and to provide support where appropriate; supervises, coaches and provides training as necessary to laboratory technicians and new chemists / trainees in their daily operations.
  • Compiles and records all information and test/trial results and maintain laboratory notebooks; analyses results, prepare reports and/or review reports and data analysis of team members and arrive at conclusions and make recommendations for next steps; recognizes potential problems and recommend directions and preventive solutions.
  • Plays major roles in project teams with minimum supervision from Manager/Associate Director R&D. Ensuring the project path closely follow the Stage-Gate and QMS discipline. Provide support and guidance to Manufacturing, R&D Satellite teams, Marketing and other related functions where appropriate at the consent of Associate Director / Manager R&D.
  • Acquires knowledge and keeps up to date with the developments in the field of glove technology for job performance and personal improvement; identifies, proposes and evaluates innovative ideas/materials/chemicals/ processes for new product and process development; writes or publishes reports and findings and present as appropriate to internal as well as to external parties (outside of R&D) as appropriate; drafts / publishes technical papers / presentations / invention disclosures / patent filings with supervision from superior.
  • Collaborates and liaise with raw material and equipment supplier to support research projects and laboratory management; procure laboratory chemicals and supplies from suppliers as per company QMS requirements.
  • Follows Safety, Health and Environmental aspects and plays supervisory role in ensuring compliance in the workgroup and R&D; correctly implements the Quality Systems including DDC adopted by R&D and Ansell and ensures compliance within workgroup; plays active role in QMS and regulatory requirements related to work area as well as identify best practices for R&D.
  • Maintains a high level of housekeeping in the laboratory at all times and procure laboratory chemicals and supplies as required; protects confidentiality of information related to work within the company such that no unauthorized person can gain access.
What you will bring:
  • Minimum Bachelor degree in chemistry /material science /polymer science /engineering /biochemistry or equivalent
  • Preferably 1 \xe2\x80\x93 2 years working experience in natural / synthetic rubber or medical device industry in areas of research, product development and / or manufacturing environment.
  • Good academic record on related subjects (Fresh Graduate).
  • Has good understanding of good laboratory and safety, health and environment practices and is competent in handling of laboratory equipment necessary to carry out daily work.
  • Possess foundation level knowledge of glove processing and formulations expertise. Able to handle the practical and fundamentals of latex, polymer and/or product technology.
  • Possess good knowledge on product defectives and quality.
  • Possess knowledge in analytical techniques relevant to latex industry
  • Has ability to use Design or Experiment principles.
  • Good work & time management skills and applies good project management skills
  • Competent in systematic and statistical data analysis, as well as presentation of results
  • Good understanding of Quality Systems, in particular for ISO 13485 and QSR Part 820
  • Good communication (Verbal & Written in English) and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced computer literacy, able to present using Power Point, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Able to understand and mitigate any risks or implications from the outcome of activities and decisions made.
  • Multi-tasking, manage to leads R&D project, coordinates overall technical activities well and communicates pleasantly among cross functional team such as marketing, manufacturing, finance, outsource, procurement and other relevant departments.
  • Possess inspired leadership and resources management. Have abilities to lead technicians.
