The R&D Director is responsible for directing and overseeing all design and development projects for the General-Purpose instrument portfolio. S/he provides leadership & management of the transverse R&D functions and is responsible for roadmap execution, value engineering and new technology initiatives. S/he oversees all Portfolio activities and fosters scientific innovation. The R&D Director (in collaboration with senior design leaders) focuses primarily on strategic execution and on initiating, fostering, maintaining external relationships and partnerships with a host of different relevant organizations. S/he also plays a role in mentoring and developing R&D staff, in resource allocation and R&D decision making.
  • Responsible for providing input for R&D strategic roadmaps
  • Maintain the highest quality of product / circuit design foundations as part of the product lifecycle (PLC) & development process
  • Keep informed on the state-of-the-art of test & measurement metrologies, development and innovations in the field
  • Lead consultations across design Initiatives & programs on common resources sharing and gap filling (i.e. staffing)
  • Ensure the internal and external design review processes of each funded R&D project by senior management
  • Responsible for conducting of successful design PLC meetings that include reviews of product roadmaps and deliver time-to-market design projects execution
  • Work closely with the technology architects and other senior R&D leader to ensure leveraging of common technology building blocks within the R&D communities
  • Provide Leadership of the R&D functions (Firmware, Application, Circuit Design Teams, FPGA) and supervise the senior team comprised multiple Design Operating Managers
  • Oversee R&D budget and allocation of resources in the R&D team. Includes Yearly Capex and Monthly OpEx spending
  • Recruit, motivate, organize training, and manage R&D team size of 30-40 employees
  • In addition, the R&D Leader will also:
o Explore and assess R&D partnership opportunities, including design partners (OEM, ODM), contract manufacturers, product safety & regulatory labs, and outsourced design partners.
o Collaborate with Order Fulfilment teams on new product ramp-up, prototyping builds, value engineering activities, assurance of supply support and revenue maximization activities.
o Close Collaboration with various ISTs (Industry Teams), COEs & Product Management / Planning teams to create, promote and drive preference around HW Applications / Solutions for general purpose instrumentation.
o Develop & Execute departmental KPIs & LEAN metrics for R&D.


Job Qualifications


This is a key strategic role for an Integrating Manager level professional who has excellent knowledge in test & measurement product development life cycles, analog/digital/FPGA/firmware design experience across different industries, market segments and familiarity on test & measurement products/systems.
The position requires the following:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or Master\xe2\x80\x99s with an Engineering or Electronics Degree
  • 10-15+ years of overall R&D / product development experience, with at least 5+ years in HW design/Project management role.
  • Proven success working across complex functions (sales, marketing, product development) and across multiple geographies to over-deliver on customer needs.
  • Experience working with customers to define requirements
  • Working with customers to define new products / solutions
  • Proven Strong Project Management & Leadership Skills

  • Test & Measurement Experience (experience with measurement metrology is a plus)
