Job Description

Centre for English Language Studies at Sunway University is looking for a Research Assistant (RA) with experience in education research (or adjacent disciplines) especially in qualitative data collection and analysis. The RA will be attached to a new research project investigating the establishment and facilitation of professional book clubs for Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) teachers in low-income schools locally. This role will run for a limited period of 5 months, estimated from 1 April 2023 to 31 August 2023.

Through this project, candidates have the opportunity to work alongside more experienced researchers, become conversant in the conceptual and empirical literature of professional development in English language education, and gain fieldwork experience in Malaysian national schools. This project involves a mix of remote and face-to-face work within the wider Petaling Jaya region.

Responsibilities:

• Data collection (interviewing and recording meetings).
• Transcription and organisation of data generated in teacher meetings and interviews.
• Some participation in initial data analysis (alongside lead investigators).
• Administrative and coordination support (primarily liaising with participants).

Requirements:

• Possess at least a Bachelor\'s Degree in Education or adjacent fields, applicants with experience in empirical research will be considered.
• Experience with, or willingness to learn, computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software (e.g. NVivo).
• Teaching and/ or research experience in Malaysian national schools will be an added advantage.
