Shell Malaysia Exploration and Production (SMEP) has a large portfolio, with a highly complex Production Sharing Contract (PSC) environment and cost allocation rules encompassing 16 PSCs through 6 legal entities, involving 6 JV partners and a National Oil Company (PETRONAS).
Join us in the team that ensures accurate Group and statutory reporting for SMEP Sarawak, working closely with our colleagues in the business and your finance in the business colleagues to deliver efficient and effective processes are operated for the agreed scope.

Sarawak Reporting Analyst Role reports directly to the Sarawak & NOV Lead. This role will execute the group and statutory reporting process for Upstream Sarawak Malaysia as well as the business specific process improvement and the controls simplification agenda. In this role you will interface with business stakeholders, your finance in the business colleagues, Commercial, Tax and Treasury colleagues, as well as external auditors. The role will be part of the pool of analysts supporting the asset with scope continuously defined based on value and risk.

What\xe2\x80\x99s the role?

The key responsibilities related to SMEP Sarawak Reporting support for the team, will include but not limited to:

  • Together with Sarawak Reporting team members, successfully deliver various processes: Group reporting (month close); statutory reporting; and statistical returns, closely collaborating with other Finance Operations teams and Finance in the business colleagues.
  • Perform timely and effective reviews on period end results and commentaries to ensure Group returns are correct and in compliance with accounting policies.
  • Comply with other Group submissions as required, e.g. Payments to Government Reporting; input to 20-F Annual Report
  • Ensure financial controls are in place to protect value and minimise value leakages
  • Ensure accounting systems are fit for purpose and constantly enhanced in line with Group guidance.
  • Maintain close collaboration with various Group functions where relevant to enable a successful delivery. Examples are Upstream PAR, Corporate and Tax team.
  • Ensure smooth month and quarter close process, driving quality, fit for purpose deliverables including group reporting submission
  • Perform analyst role in balance sheet reconciliations (Status of Accounts Reporting) ensuring all control requirements met on a timely basis SOX/Financial Controls
  • Provide regular support to auditors including Statutory, government and SIA
  • Ensure processes are proportionate to the value they drive or risk they mitigate and \xe2\x80\x98speak up\xe2\x80\x99 and challenge where unnecessary activities are taking place
  • Actively contribute to identification of improvement opportunities and support their implementation
  • Support lead in pooling of resources to manage workload across peaks and activities
What we need from you?

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  • Degree in Finance/Accounting or Professional Qualifications with at least 3 years of related work experience
  • Understanding of financial and management accounting
  • Ability to work independently under an environment of change
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Drive towards operational excellence and sharing best practices
  • Possess the ability to work on different tasks concurrently often with tight deadlines
  • High capacity to prioritize key elements of a deliverables
  • Preferred knowledge of SAP systems
  • Exposure to audit is preferred
  • Knowledge of Shell Upstream businesses will be an advantage
  • Proficient in written and spoken English
